Just hope they don't try to shoot you to see if you're bullet proof.

This thread has made me aware of the fact that all the joes I have that haven't been kitbashed into civilian members of my monster hunters project, are all Cobras.

That lady would hate me. Somehow, I just can't seem to care.

You know, I think the world would be in a lot better shape if the scariest terrorists we had to worry about were on par with Cobra Vipers. First, they would be pretty damn easy to identify...forget CIA investigations, just look for the guys in the space-robot-from-the-60's uniforms. Second, they'd fail at everything with such regularity that people would start feeling a sense of pity, rather than terror.

I wonder how she feels about Star Wars toys. I mean, technically, the good guys in that are terrorists. Does she only let her son buy Darth Vader, Palpatine and clone troopers?

Meanwhile, I probably would have put down the Vipers, walked over to the Transformers section and said, as innocently as possible, "Wow, you're right. I don't want to buy terrorist toys anymore! Maybe you can help me out...which of these giant robots hates America least?"

In response to some of the responses:

I was almost afraid to mention Clone Troopers, since arguably, they were good guys who became bad guys. Probably would've blown a few synapses in her brain and I don't think she had many to spare (don't get me started on my theory that maybe the Jedi deserved to lose...)

I like Darko's suggestion about citing Transformers.

J_Man, I would write a book, but who'd believe it? And where would it be stocked in the bookstore? Biography? Science-fiction? Horror?

And snowman, yeah, I actually have this cool Crimson Guard T-shirt. If I'd been wearing that -- ...shudder... I don't like to think about what would've happened...

At least I know from some of the other responses that I'm not entirely alone in the nutjob encounter field.

Now, has anyone else encountered anything like THAT before? Buy the good guys but not the bad guys, and for THIS line of alleged reasoning?!

Not quite the same leauge but I know a kid whose mom only buys him good guys from Star Wars cause Darth Vader gave him nightmares when he was really little. Now I have not seen him or his mom since Indy came out but I know he had no interests in Joes last time I saw him and his mom.

But that is wierd. Should show her some old Joe toons, I mean the really bad ones to see cobra isn't as terrible as people think

Duh.

Everyone knows it's not the superman shirt.

You have to be wearing a cape to fly.

I don't think it's that strange - - as a kid, for that exact reason, I could never get blueshirts, firefly, storm-shadow, Maj. Bludd --

My mom was also opposed to me buying figures of terrorists. For similar reasons, people were against the serial killer trading cards that came out over a decade ago. Even though Cobra is fictional, the point - - not wanting to glorify or romanticize terrorism and criminal violence (or disrespect their victims) is a rational one, I think. (and let's remember the historical context in which Cobra was introduced or under which GI Joe is experiencing a resurgence.)

That didn't stop me from getting a ton of blueshirts as an adult, but I definitely understand the point. (That sentiment is also one of the reasons the Joe movie is coming out in August instead of July 4th, by-the-way, and why Joes will never be as popular as Transformers or Star Wars - pure fantasies) I also understand the point of not wanting toys that glorify military (although I strongly disagree with that), or just being against plastic action figures because of oil shortages and environmental concerns - which are also good points.

In conclusion, I hate Adam Gadahn and I hope he is dead. PEACE!!!

Every time I hear something like this I recall a warning label -- actually a separate sticker that was applied to a particular toy package a number of years ago.

It was a Batman Armor Set. It included a kid-sized plastic Bat-helmet, plastic chestplate with sculpted muscles, a fabric cape, and a utility belt. I think Kenner put it out around the time of the second Batman movie.

And the warning label read, "Warning - Chestplate does not provide any actual protection, and cape does not enable wearer to fly!"

Gotta love the lawyers!

Gotta love stupid people for requiring such a needless label.

I remember that! David Letterman had one on his show, and after he read the warning he looked right into the camera and said "Don't listen to the warning kids, trust me, you put this on and you'll fly like a rocket!".
