Good news! Looking forward to seeing what they do with it. I really, really hope the rest of the Marvel run comes out in trades. Is it bad to be more excited over old material than fresh?

And just to play 'devil's' advocate (snicker) I'll go ahead and offer Devil's Due my thanks for at least keeping Joe in comic form on life support for seven years.

IDW's Chris Ryall speaks about the Joe license.

I have to say the idea of getting the Marvel run in a nice complete hardback or TPB set would be great.

I expect we'll hear more specifics after DDP's run is over.

I feel so much better now.

Also... "hard to find Marvel" stuff? Dare we hope... Special Missions trade???

Knowing that Josh Blaylock's hands will be off of the GI Joe mythos makes me soooo very happy. Even if the new stuff is horrible, Devil's Due won't be allowed to damage the iconic goodness anymore.

Amen.

someone correct me if i'm wrong (hypno, looking at you...) but idw does 30 days of night, right? and i think i have a couple more of their trades -- and they're nice --

i first got into them through their Lore tpb, but then i also picked up some Cal MacDonald stuff --

and it's really quality stuff --

(hypno, back me up...)

but i'm also one of the (seemingly) few who really dug the ashley wood covers in the comic packs...

so, like m.stranger; of course, that's just my opinion, and i could be wrong...

IDW is doing the new Mack Bolan "The Executioner" series. Only been a couple of issues so far, but I think they are great, of course one of the best Bolan writers was brought in to write the comic as well, so that helps, but I have definately no complaints from what I've seen from them.
But what the Hell is this GI JOE vs Cobra ??
Shouldn't it be GI JOE a REAL AMERICAN HERO ?

Anyway good news.

As far as hard to get Marvel, comics the Special Missions aren't hard to come by, a guy had them on sale on here for $30 for the run.
And Marvel did to a TPB of them way back, that wasn't too hard to come by last I looked. but trying to get anything over issue like 130 is a challenge and a half. Of course I wasn't too pleased with both direction and artwork, so I'm not overly agressive trying to pick these up.

IDW gets Joe license = SWEET! I hope we get lots of spotlights and side adventures just like their Transformers line!

Larry Hama involved = EVEN SWEETER! Go Larry, go Larry, go Larry!

Best kinda news one can get after running around without sleep for 36 hours straight... but I can't be sure it's not all just a dream.

A Real American Hero is out. I have a feeling we all need to come to terms with that. It's politically charged, and limited in scope (yes, GIJoe is American military, but even the 80s Joe team had International members... Dropping the subtitle, 25 years later, is really a matter of focusing on Hasbro's toy property, which is GIJoe (protagonists) vs Cobra (Antagonists)... the fact that GIJoe is a team of American Heroes is beside the point.

I get it. It doesnt "betray" the concept, it doesn't take anything away. As long as the classic continuity has Scarlett born in Atlanta and Roadblock hailing from Bilouxi... they are still American heroes.

As for IDW, they had the forsight to support Peter David's Fallen Angel book after DC dropped it like a bad habit and refused to market it as a Vertigo title (where it would've been happily at home). Between that and Transformers, 25% of my comic purchases each month will now be IDW.

So happy to hear this. If I'm dream, no wanna wake!

from what i've read (and understood,) there's three product 'lines' coming out --

1. Joe vs Cobra in continuity comic
2. Reboot featuring mythos/storyline from the movie comic
3. trades, etc. of old comics

anyone else finding this info?

Hum, oh gee am I all excited about the company that gave us Spotlight Kup and the upcoming All Hail Megatron getting a shot at giving us all sorts of GI Joe and Cobra goodness?

Even if you didn't like the main story arch it's just insane how much stuff they have been able to reprint in the Transformers universe so we might be able to get Action Force reprints and other goodness beyound just the main Marvel run of GI Joe. Really like the way IDW keeps things in different boxes so that if you loved the live action Transformers films they have comics for you but if you didn't like it you aren't forced to miss anything by skipping the movie releated comic books.

Best news is we now have a publisher who will say the Joe Casey stuff never happened so throw away the teen angist and Punshier Flint, it's time to get back to some fun.

I disagree. While I understand the rationale for changing it with the movie (and still disagree with the premise), it makes NO sense whatsoever to change it for the comic books. The movie's profits will come almost equally split from the US and elsewhere. But an American-published comic book will get 90% or more of its profits from... the US. There's no logical reason to cut down on that.

But I'm not going to argue it. Just stating the premise/facts/etc.

It's just dumb marketing. Without getting political, it's pretty safe to say that anyone who is going to be turned off/offended/etc. by an "A Real American Hero" tagline isn't going to be buying a military comic anyway (especially one called G.I. Joe, which is well-known slang for an American soldier).

Of course, since we haven't had a comic with "A Real American Hero" on it in over 3 years, it's not really about changing it as it is about bringing it back.

I do know how appeasing Hasbro and Marvel are going to be with the new comic. I think the approach in the old days was good. You had European missions and you had American missions-each had members from other countries and each put their own spin on stuff. The European missions had better quality paper and artwork then alot of the U.S. marvel run and I had considered getting them when MD Bright was doing the artwork because I felt it was so horrible.

I think what they will do, if they are in fact doing 2 main titles, will be have the movie continuity which will be all politically correct and pandering and then do the other continuity which may/may not build upon the previous marvel/DD run. I personally would like to see them encompass elements from European mission, the cartoon and the U.S. comic run into the main continuity. The Movie continuity depending on how Michael Moorish it is I may just skip entirely...I have to see
