A Real American Hero is out. I have a feeling we all need to come to terms with that. It's politically charged, and limited in scope (yes, GIJoe is American military, but even the 80s Joe team had International members... Dropping the subtitle, 25 years later, is really a matter of focusing on Hasbro's toy property, which is GIJoe (protagonists) vs Cobra (Antagonists)... the fact that GIJoe is a team of American Heroes is beside the point.
I disagree. While I understand the rationale for changing it with the movie (and still disagree with the premise), it makes NO sense whatsoever to change it for the comic books. The movie's profits will come almost equally split from the US and elsewhere. But an American-published comic book will get 90% or more of its profits from... the US. There's no logical reason to cut down on that.
But I'm not going to argue it. Just stating the premise/facts/etc.
It's just dumb marketing. Without getting political, it's pretty safe to say that anyone who is going to be turned off/offended/etc. by an "A Real American Hero" tagline isn't going to be buying a military comic anyway (especially one called G.I. Joe, which is well-known slang for an American soldier).
Of course, since we haven't had a comic with "A Real American Hero" on it in over 3 years, it's not really about changing it as it is about bringing it back.
