As long as it's been brought up, what DOES Beach-Head's "75" patch stand for?

75th Ranger Regiment -- it's the only real Ranger unit in the Army (separated into three Battalions.)

And now you know...

Actually, that's not what Beach Head's patch is. It's the 75th Infantry Division:

Yes, I'm well aware Beach Head is SUPPOSED to be from the 75th Regiment:

BUt they have a different patch:

True, but then again, the designers of every Joe toy ever made were pretty much idiots when it comes to actual military insignia, so it doesn't really matter anyway. :P I mean, they gave Flint the wrong beret device (SFG enlisted DUI on an officer wearing a black beret) and nearly everyone else has some defunct or reserve unit insignia and wear it improperly. The only exception seems to be Falcon, who's actually wearing the right "LASER BLAST" (albeit upside-down and in the wrong color.) Funny that they seemed to get the USMC guys' insignia right, though - wonder if there was a Jarhead somewhere on the design team :P

But good catch - my bad. I never really bothered really looking at BH's patch, and I knew it wasn't the same as the Ranger Scroll (since I see it every day - one of my buddies is a veteran of the 75th RR), but I never knew about the 75th Division because it hasn't been in the active Army for nearly 60 years. I just focused on the number 75, since all Ranger units are part of the 75th Ranger Rgt.

Oh, and the link you provided is just for the Ranger's DUI - the crest they wear on their berets & Class A epaulets.
The patch is actually here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:75_R ... signia.svg

Nice work compiling all the unit insignias from the toys -- I don't think I've ever bothered to look them up. Some are the actual patches, some are metal insignia, and some are beret flashes (the Anti-Venom one is only a flash). I think the toy designers must have looked at an old book of unit designators and just picked the cool ones for the toys :D This is highlighted by the fact that Spirit's DUI has a Tomahawk (it's from the 2nd Inf Div, BTW, not 2nd Army. 2ID is the "Indian Head" patch, and they focus on Korea and the Pacific.) -- The 104th patch has long been a favorite of mine (since I dig wolves), but I'd forgotten that CG wore the patch.

Good stuff - thanks for looking it up!

I just checked both arms of my Crankcase, there's no pegasus on them. Could we have a variant?

My 25th doesn't have anything and the original has the Pegasus, so what is that patch?

OK, my figures have some paint wear and I can't see much of the card art anymore but this is as much as I deciphered:

You are my new best friend for identifying all of these so far. I owe you a beverage of choice if we ever meet. I need to update so many figure pages now.

not seeing a hatchet of any kind in the original picture, looks clearly like a pegasus flying horse to me.

To add to this, the patches on the TRU Crimson Guard pack are based on 1st, 2nd and 3rd Armored Division patches (take your pick).

I can't find anything for this. The closet I came was the logo for operation desert shield and that was years after Dusty was released. Anyone want to take a stab at that one? Perhaps someone who has spent time in a desert environment.

Sorry to necro-post, but this topic came up elsewhere and was directed here. One correction: Dial Tone's patch isn't 10th Cav. Another person pointed out that his "patch is based on the original beret crest for 10th Special Forces Group.

As for Dusty's palm, it looks similar to the Afrika Korps symbol (minus swastika) which in turn has been copied by numerous desert formations.

Wow, it's weird that this thread was dug up, it's cool it was linked to at another site. Trippy to read a post I made so many years ago, I forgot about this entirely.
