I don't think it's so much getting things early, it's paying up to 10 times retail to get them early. If these were going for close to retail then I'd be able to understand getting them. But I can't understand paying $50, 60, 70 for a single figure that will be in stores in a month or two.

These are definitely early samples. Toys R Us posted pictures of the production figures and Leatherneck had full camo. I doubt the majority of the final products will be this poorly painted.

That image could have easily been a mock-up image.

Usually reviewers get samples from companies.
My wife often receives products from make-up companies for her to review. She doesn't have to pay crazy scalper price to do so.
Playmobil has a program for families to test their various products.

If I wanted to do an early review, I'd have to buy from Ebay since I have no journalistic credibility, but I can't see why Hasbro wouldn't send some sample to a toy magazine or popular website.

It looks like it's a shot of the figures from the same point in the life cycle as the packaged figures.

Note: General Hawk is no longer a POC Hawk with a water-slide star decal on his shoulder. He now has the lighter boots/slight color variations we're seeing in the packaged sample and the paint sample on eBay.

It's entirely possible that Hasbro intends to cut the paint apps on Leatherneck and the retail figure won't look like the packaged production sample that's in the Toys R Us images, but I'm guessing they won't and that the figure on eBay is just a sample.

I also doubt the Viper is going to have sloppy paint on its legs or be missing the grenade paint application.

The Baroness face is probably not going to look as good as the 25th 5 pack version. But I doubt most of the Lady Jaye figures are going to have bad eyes like this one.

Over the last few years, once the figures get to packaged samples, the deco doesn't change much. Once we got packaged sample press images for Wave 3.5, for example, the combat ninja had the retail deco (not the prototype deco), Snake Eyes had the Retaliation head ( ) and Roadblock's deco matched the retail look (not the prototype). Once the figures hit retail, they looked like the packaged promo shots.

Something to keep in mind. Remember the Alley Viper that came with the POC Rage? The early "gray market" figures had a black wash and some different paint details that the final packaged figure didn't. So these early "samples" shouldn't be held as the final product until we actually see the final procut.

Boooy, Dasaffe, I certainly hope you're right about this. I'm very much inclined to think you are. I'm looking forward to a lot of these figures.

The plot thickens: Hisstank has new photos. Leatherneck and Viper have their missing paint apps restored and LJ looks a bit better. I'm betting spotty QC will bedevil that figure at retail. Hopefully the rest will fare better.

Baroness still looks worse than the 25th figure.

Yes. Looks like all the cobras have small gold sigils similar to the joe gold stars. This unfortunately includes Destro.
