Specific details are always the final determining factor for me. But, assuming we would get Retaliation-level quality and articulation, interesting designs, and good character selection, I'd most likely support such a venture. I'd prefer to pay closer to a retail price per figure rather than Club pricing per figure ... but I already pay Club pricing for figures that at worst use entirely existing tooling and at best have a new head/accessories, so getting figures that would likely have more new tooling than that would probably make that price even more palatable.

No. I don't need to kickstart another SE or SS or CC or RB. I'd rather support BFS or MJ.

With fodder getting harder and harder to find for a good price, I'm already starting to have trouble finding what I need. If the price of figures continues in the direction it has been, and they become this sort of high end collectible... My days may be numbered. I'll have to just keep doing ARAH style customs only.

So I guess, no. Under no circumstance would I follow this path to get GI joes, and what's more, I think that the FSS is bad for the hobby, as it's made people think that these prices are acceptable, when really they are kind of ludicrous.

I would not pay more than retail for a Hasbro produced action figure.

I don't think many of us want more of those figures, though I personally wouldn't mind seeing the concept case 88 Storm Shadow and a 1991 Cobra Commander made. I'd mostly want to see more concept case figures produced (Gung Ho, please!!), maybe even a new direction for the line.

The premise behind the hypothetical would be of figures you want, however you define that.

I mean, in fairness I'm leading towards backing the Boss Fight Kickstarter "All-In" which could lead to roughly 38 "different" figures based off of 3 base bodies.

but...

...this is kind of where I am too. I'm also not a fan of the FSS (with the caveat as always that I customize more than collect). I seriously doubt I will ever own a single FSS figure.

Same would be true of Boss Fight if the core cost hovers at $25+ per and a significant amount of the stretch goals are not met. I'm really only interest if the per figure for the All-In drops under $20, and even then it would be a hard pill to swallow.

That said, Lance - at least there will always be a good stash of modern era figures for cheap on ebay

Nope.

There are club figures I'd actually really like to own. However I refuse to pay the prices asked for them.
So there is no way I'd throw money at a kickstarter to promote more overpriced GI Joe figures.

I like the BFS figures, mainly because they are something different and touch on a few different interesting things. The Marauder figures have that awesome modular design. And both of these are being done specifically as collector / customizer type items. With features aimed directly at us.

Hasbro loves to chime in with the 'we make toys for kids' line when dismissing collectors. So I see no valid reason that their products should cost 'collector' level prices. Especially directly from the source.
