It was said back when these were first shown at Toy Fair that it was an attempt to get the younger kids interested by having large figures for less. I think it was one of the fan sites said it. For the most part, they were 5.99 until stores decided to try and get a little more.

I could understand this. The price primarily being aimed at the parents.

I still see it as futile with the current 1/6 market to make anything but repro AT and original Joe stuff, because the market has swung too far to the high end.

I see it on 1/6 message boards all the time, people clamoring for an affordable option a la 21st Century Toys, but then denigrating anything that isn't to the level of Soldier Story, Hot Toys, Toys City etc. They all say they want these more affordable, retail pieces, but [LASER BLAST] when the weapons don't have the level of detail that allows you to field strip an M4, with working charging handle.

That isn't what I heard. DePriest said this was mainly for the international market where these kinds of figures are still in demand.

Considering the parachute 12" Joe, which I thought was a nice figure, is still lingering on the shelves I cna see Hasbro backing off and letting Sidewhow and Hot Toys handle the adult collector aspect of the Joe line. They said and shown time after time, that the collector market ins't where their bread is buttered. Their goal is still the kids and us at the same time.

It could have just been fan rambling that I saw and in passing I took it as "news". I do know that initially I saw the Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain America, Obiwan, Anakin, and Clone trooper out at Wal-Mart and Target for $5.99 each. I remember commenting on it cause I saw TRU with them and charging $12.99. But then not long after, Wal-Mart and Target boosted the prices to $9.99 while TRU kept theirs at the same price.

I did buy the Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Roadblock though. Mostly just because I think this will be the only ones made and probably will be the only ones ever made like this. Going by my area, these figures are not selling. The initial ones sold a few I guess, but now the stack of stock is growing larger and larger each time I am at the store. On all of these.

Hasbro likes to make the same mistakes.
Sure it's not the same creative team, but they did a 5 PoA figure back in the Adventure Team days. He was the Defender. Bulletman head on a lame body. He didn't last long.

Will we get an anniversary 12" GI joe, I sure hope so. The guy started the whole action figure movement.

ive thought they have been cheaply and badly made for decades now. as far as articulation maybe they are looking at the success of the star wars kenner jumbo figures. personally i dont like them just because they dont look like the characters to me i never like film based figures that look like some actor instead of the character.

The 5 POA bricks that we are getting now is the opposite of what Hasbro did in 1976. Faced with skyrocketing crude oil prices ($18 a barrell) Hasbro finally pulled the plug on the 12" GI Joe for almost 15 years, rolling out the 8" Super Joe line as a replacement. They decided to end the line rather than cut back on the quality of the figure, something we are witnessing now, the "Big in foreign markets" figures. Hasbro is happy to let other companies make 12" Joes, the high-end Sideshow and Hot Toys figures.

I think the days of mass market 12" GI Joes are over.

I have to agree. The market just isn't there anymore because the people that would buy mass market 1/6 just can't sustain a mass retail line.

Sideshow and Hot Toys have effectively ended the era of mass retail 1/6.

The aim of these 12" figures are for International markets and budget conscious buyers who want a large movie themed toy, but who wouldn't spend $30 on it. Supposedly these limited POA figures are extremely popular Internationally, which is why Hasbro has been doing them across the board with Joe, Star Wars, and Marvel. We don't like 'em, and they accept we don't like 'em, but they're not for us.
