Sadly, Hasbro and Mattel seem to agree with you...

If you are talking about the totally lame Retaliation vehicle drivers---then that hopefully is not true. I read an interview about the 2013 movie line with one of the designers and he said that they learned their lesson about those figures with limited articulation and would not be making that mistake again.

I read the same interview you did.

I read all of the interviews.

I was not referring to the Retaliation drivers. I was referring to the upcoming "Star Wars" lines, recent years' "Green Lantern"/"Batman The Dark Knight Rises"/etc. and this year's "Spiderman"/"Iron Man 3"/"Man Of Steel"/"Batman"/etc./etc./etc. lines currently sitting on pegs across the entrie contry.

I don't mind them as some people will collect these. However I would have definitely bought some if they had modern articulation. It's too bad they won't do both.

I don't really like that they're calling it retro and some are complaining it's not modern. The ARAH figure style first came around in the late 70's, I believe with The Black Hole figures and as for it not being "modern" heck we still get figures with similar or less articulation now a days. I mean look at most vehicle drivers over the last couple of years and then look at the Marvel singles you can find at the smaller chain stores (& I know those are just repaints/repackages of the drivers).

MacGyver

Prior to my stuff being stolen I had ARAH style figures of a few of those mentioned. And I have seen scale vehicles for a few of them too.
As for the list I would like to add a few to it:
Hardcastle & McCormick
Blue Thunder
Walker, Texas Ranger
Kojak
Columbo
Riptide
Either version of Hawaii 5-O
CHiPs
Tropic Thunder (that speed boat was awesome)
Stripes (ok I mainly want the RV)
And finally Night Court (who wouldn't want a Bull Shannon figure)

Okay, I've just realized I need to make my extra Prof X into Dan Fielding. Who's got good head suggestions?

While I'm a fan of articulated figures, I think these upcoming figures will look great along side some adventure people.
I hope they'll make a Steve in his khaki uniform and civilian outfit.

Uh...No one's complaining that it's a retro line that doesn't have "modern" figures. We're complaining that it's a retro line period. If this company (or any other for that matter) had gotten the license for 6MDM and put out a line of figures comparable to PoC, I'd be pretty excited. As is, I have no desire to own figures like this. It's not just the lack of articulation either. It's the sculpting too. Take Retaliation Clutch for example. Even though his articulation sucks, he LOOKS like a great figure.

Yeah, it feels like a company trying to sell me a black-n-white TV just because I have fond memories of the early seasons of Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie, or something.

That black and white tv analogy is the best way to describe how I feel about these retro projects for me too. I get cost issues and going with the lesser articulation but seeing a Kenner Star Wars like head sculpt that looks nothing like the actor makes me sad. With today's technologies and toy design techniques we have the capabilities to build it better...stronger...faster.

I think that aside from the reduced level of articulation, they are really going for the 70's toy aesthetic. These figures look like they might have been produced 40 years ago.

A fully detailed figure with only 7 PoA would miss the mark. The same with a highly articulated figure with a low level of details.

I think they are going for the fans of adventure people and kenner SW figures. Like Super 7 and their upcoming Alien figures, it looks like they want to cash in on some 70's nostalgia.

I blame Kenner for starting this whole "Retro" movement back in 1977, or 1978 if you want to spilt hairs. :shifty:

Mattel seems to okay, even suckered me into buying some GL figs. Since the SMDM property is already a niche market, why divide that niche by the added niche of retro toy collectors?

All the evidence I can see is that this retro stuff doesn't sell well.

I do see you point though...
