Let's talk abouuuuut Ghost Bear.

Of all the people on JC from whom I NEVER expected to see a Salt-n-Pepa song reference, you’d have easily been in the top five. Like, maybe two spots behind Trekker and immediately in front of joemichaels… :chiefty:

:P

Get up on THIS!

Let's talk abouuuuut Ghost Bear.

Umm, good: connection to past mythos.
Bad: Kwinn's son is Carrot Top.

Redesign, give him a crap ton of survival tools, maybe a tent and you've got a winner.

A GI Joe character inserted into a Salt-n-Pepa song.....

Only on Joe customs heh.

Nice ....

Regarding the character ... the Joe universe will always welcome more independent contractors / mercenaries. In fact...i'd love to see a modern take on Ghost Bear in the new IDW comics . I have no doubt they'd flesh out the character well.

Quote:
The man known only as Ghost Bear is rumored to hail from a long line of mercenaries. He exploded onto the scene only a few years ago and quickly earned a reputation as an incredibly skilled infiltrator and consummate professional. After being credited with the completion of several high-profile jobs including industrial sabotage, artifact acquisitions and bounty collections, he became one of the most sought after talents in the private military market. He rarely speaks, and when he does it is through a voice modulator.
Ghost Bear can seemingly access any objective, no matter how fortified or well guarded, and keep his presence completely hidden until he -- or his employer -- wishes otherwise. He is an expert marksman with pistol, rifle or crossbow and is said to be possessed of incredible strength despite his wiry build.
While being taken down the side of a building in a dual harness, a recovered prisoner once asked Ghost Bear why he pursued him so relentlessly. Ghost Bear responded with what sounded like a fable: "The bear's mate bore him a weasel. And even though his mate did not survive, the bear loved the weasel. He loved him as a bear loves its cub. Yet the weasel was no bear. To survive the bear's love, the weasel had to endure...to become strong like the bear. But he was still a weasel. Smarter...faster than the bear. And more dangerous. Because all he ever wanted was to make the bear proud."

Spin's write up (Specifically the fable) says what I wanted to more succinctly
Ghost Bear fell into and out of COBRA Command very fast.
Kwinn exposed his son to a taste of every military/survival discipline (Physical fitness, field medicine, tracking, marksmanship, survival, hand to hand combat, weapons of every type) When informed of his father's death he just laughed and grinned because in his mind he knew that couldn't be true. Ghost Bear began a trek to find his father and further his skills. His youth would prove to cloud his judgment, as from time to time he would choose less-than-stellar mentors, but there was so much promise in his ability and a fragile mind traumatized by much in such a short time. I am sure each tried their best to manipulate this for their own gains.
First he studied survival skills under a man he met while wandering through the Yukon. It would turn out to be one of Canada’s Alpha Flight members (Canada’s small version of GI Joe), code name Wolverine. Then he traveled to South America where he studied marksmanship under a mercenary known as Mortal. While traipsing through Africa he met the mysterious Shadow Tracker whom sharpened his already honed tracking skills. In Denver he met the Blind Master who taught him advanced martial arts (not the Arishikage techniques). He also warned Ghost Bear of the consequences of his choices. A stint in Manila brought him in contact with the mercenary and often employee of COBRA, Firefly who taught him about explosives and sabotage. The former two subjects, it should be noted, he excelled at. Firefly was so impressed he brought him into the fold with COBRA.
The Commander loved the idea of Kwinn’s jaded son in his employ and furthered his delusions of his father’s death. He found himself palling around with Scrap Iron and Hotwire who were working on a update to the S.N.A.K.E. Armor of old (the Pulverizer mech) and he agreed to test it for them. He used it in only three small COBRA operations. Events with Billy, Storm Shadow and Mercer began to wear on COBRA Commander and he took his frustrations out on his employees. Storm Shadow gave ghost Bear proof of COBRA Commanders treachery and he bailed on COBRA less than 7 months after joining. Many attribute his survival to his training. He has stayed true to his mercenary title since, declining offers from G.I. Joe, Alpha Flight, The Red Shadows, and Arishikage Clan to join their ranks. He takes missions against COBRA targets at a discounted rate and is on retainer with M.A.R.S. should they ever again take up arms against COBRA. He has fought with and against G.I. Joe in the three years since his falling out.

I really dig that head for an unmasked Ghost Bear. good choice. I also like renegades firefly as a new base body... I own both of these things...

Whoa! That Ghost Bear looks awesome! That's a Ghost Bear I could get into!

I never gave Ghost Bear much thought, but I was also never a Kwinn fan (and I know I must be the only Joe fan out there that doesn't care about Kwinn). I never made room in my Cobra organization for Ghost Bear. I picked up the Cobra mech a few months back with Ghost Bear but traded the figure to a friend.
