I always assumed an inside joke that I didn't bother getting to the bottom of. He's actually posted quite a bit of late.

Great question and one with some history to it. The last branding of Kenner's Star Wars line in 1985 was Power of the Force and came with coins. When Hasbro/Kenner relaunched the line in 1995 they branded it Power of the Force as well but to help distinguish it collectors will call it POTF2.

Ok, I'll take a stab at these and you guys can let me know if anything needs to be corrected.

Bash - Taking parts, usually body parts, from several different figures and putting them back together to make a single custom.

Kitbash - Taking accessories/clothes/weapons from several different figures and putting them together to create a new custom.

Bootleg - Unlicensed item but close to if not equal in quality to a mass produced item

Knock Off - Unlicensed item that is usually of inferior quality compared to a mass produced item

Peg Warmer - a figure so unwanted in the numbers produced and shipped that it clogs the peg hooks in the toy isles

Endcap - department store displays at the end of an isle facing the isle

Big Box Store - Big national or multi-regional chain department stores

Overhead - Storage areas above the isle displays where workers will store extra stock or collectors will hide something to purchase later

Gray Market - Source for items that were produced in a factory but not sold at retail, usually ebay dealers in Asia

Brick and Mortar - Stores with actual physical locations as opposed to an online store

Swappers - Figure swappers will exchange a figure in a package with a less desirable figure, reseal the package, and then return the item for a refund.

Kitbash is a term that originates in model building circles...gundam, tank, car, etc...model kits...I think adding a bit about that helps fill out the definition of the term.

Bash, I think is a derivitave of kitbash...but I generally see it used in relation to action figure parts that would NOT fit together if they weren't being "bashed". Emphasis is often on heavy modification, carving, grinding, drilling, and restructuring the "buck" of a figure.... a common example an an accompanying term is "joeticulating"... Taking figures with "T-Crotches" and adding GI Joe style hips.

The "buck" is a Truncated form of the term "Standard Buck". A standard Buck is the basis for the articulation of an action figure... it sets the minimums needed to manufacture a figure...In order to accomidate the needed engineering, and meet specific tolerances, parts can not be any smaller than the "Buck"

Photo of a vintage 2-up GI Joe Buck (Dissassembled) and a modern casting of the same Buck.

I've also seen buck used in the industry to describe the average size/height for the line. So while Cyclops might use the standard buck, Wolverine would be slightly smaller and the Hulk would be larger. Although I've never heard the term unstandard buck or anything like that to describe the height/size variations.

I guess my definitions have been a bit more "Origin of the term". I think because So Much design has transitioned to a digital world, the Buck is less a phyisical object now as it is minimum settings and tolerances within the 3D design programs.

Alright, here's where the list is at now. http://wiki.joecustoms.com/wiki/Site_Glossary

J_Man I didn't add some of the obvious adjective ones like Perfect or Poor Design. Those are pretty self explanatory. I did put in Cheap Plastic because of the ARAH gold plastic issue.

Yeah I just threw them out there. Stuff off the top of my head. I figure if everyone adds in, it might become a standardized list people will use from several forums and websites.
