A ball the size of the nub at the ends of the hands, that holds them in the arm, would be small enough to not make the palm look funky, yet still fairly sturdy. I mean, the peg that is actually holding the hands on on figures is smaller, and it's sturdy enough.

Maybe give both hands the side to side pivot where it is now, but connected to the wrist with a ball joint instead of a peg. My thinking here is that I'd rather have limited waving motion if I could keep the full quick draw motion.
