I'm struggling to see any of these figures as aftermarket winners. I'm talking Dial-Tone like ROI... If the Club wants to have a successful subscription service, these figures need to be double money as soon as they're in my hand and go up to 3-4x value for at least a year...
That's what worked for Matty with the MOTUC line... High secondary market values pulled collectors and speculators into the subscriptions... and as long as re-releases don't flood the market and crush resale value the subscription will continue to succeed. Nobody is going to subscribe again if every figure they bought for $20 is selling for $10 on ebay in 6 months.
I'll admit that my perception could be off, I would have never called Alpine as a $75-$100 figure...and maybe these figures have more draw than I'm seeing... But I need to see more and have a final price before I can say weather or not I'll be getting any subscriptions.
Well let's take a look at the list and break down the forecasting.
Quarrel - Break even. Fills a foreign figure void, AF void, and is a new character. But it is still a repaint of a not great figure and not a lot of US media presence for her.
Topside - You'll get your money back at first since he's a continuation of the 25th line and a navy guy, but he's not a top tier character. Prices drop after the initial rush to get him.
Cover Girl - Depends on the sculpt but Break Even or better if they give her a coat.
Big Boa - Money. Classic Cobra named character redone in 25th. People will dig this figure.
Nano BAT - Break even. Being an army builder saves him from losing money. People love it or hate it.
Jinx - Money. Classic character from GI Joe animated movie done in 25th.
Barrel Roll - Break even depending on sculpt. If they use a decent body I think current collectors will dig the character enough to scoop him up. If they use a bad sculpt he won't move at all. But casual fans won't be clamoring for it.
Iron Claw - Money. Weird that a villain from a failed incarnation of GI Joe is getting so much attention but fans are willing to plunk done the coin just for this guy.
Sure Fire - Break even depending on sculpt. No media presence. Nobody but recent collectors know the character.
Dice - Money. Fills a void and has some comic and DiC media. Later year figure though and a purple ninja to boot so I don't see people clamoring for him but I see enough people wanting one to keep the prices up for a while.
Tan Grunt - Loss. Nobody is going to go out of their way to get this at the per figure asking price. Then when the price drops people will jump on it at the discounted price to army build.
TNT - Break Even. I almost went with Loss on this but if they do the paint job right it could look like a crash crew firefighter which might garner some more interest. The base figure isn't good and if they stick to the actual foreign colors it won't be for everybody.
