I really wish they'd made a new, better Grunt v3 instead. That would have been different and more interesting.

I think it's cool they did put a flight pack on him. It's not exactly something to expect them to do the big glider. Heck I've been asked to do it and had a hard time locating all the materials. It's doable, but it would be it's own thing if the club did it... plus probably more than I'll charge.

But yeah, I like the figure. Apparently that list is correct. They can keep showing these all they want but it still comes down to price.

I'm actually okay with this, but if I got one I'd want multiples -- and I can't see the price point being friendly for that.

I'm kind of a sucker for versatile repaints.

It's a tan Grunt figure. What are you expecting? It matches well with the visual design of the 25th figures and he's got a new head. Yeah the glider is questionable but they have to fit these on the standard single card packaging. The foam glider was never a possibility. They did the best they could with what they had available to them and within the parameters of the packaging.

If you want to be upset about anything it should be the character selection here NOT the execution. Because the execution is spot on.

Character selection here is definitely my problem. I have zero need for a tan Grunt.

Damn it looks like the leaked list is legit at this point. I can not believe they are actually going to include Sure Fire in this subscription. Pathetic.

Much better than how I would have put it.

I'm struggling to see any of these figures as aftermarket winners. I'm talking Dial-Tone like ROI... If the Club wants to have a successful subscription service, these figures need to be double money as soon as they're in my hand and go up to 3-4x value for at least a year...

That's what worked for Matty with the MOTUC line... High secondary market values pulled collectors and speculators into the subscriptions... and as long as re-releases don't flood the market and crush resale value the subscription will continue to succeed. Nobody is going to subscribe again if every figure they bought for $20 is selling for $10 on ebay in 6 months.

I'll admit that my perception could be off, I would have never called Alpine as a $75-$100 figure...and maybe these figures have more draw than I'm seeing... But I need to see more and have a final price before I can say weather or not I'll be getting any subscriptions.

Hmn,

All I can say is that this is about exciting as the original Tan Grunt, which is just a repaint of the v1 figure.

I will always give the club an A+ just for trying. I cant imagine what their limitations are, but I am sure they exist. Dice was a home run. This isn't exciting, but it does fill a gap.

I wonder if they'd be better off using all the parts they DO have access to to create an all new subgroup. If they did an exclusive set of a subgroup, there would be no limitations on creativity, and they'd create an awesome new substory in the process. I think that would be better received, and surely better executed.

Jinx, Big Boa, and Cover Girl will have some clout on the secondary market. Iron Klaw and TNT might, I'd think. But the rest of the figures'll be aftermarket duds.

Well let's take a look at the list and break down the forecasting.

Quarrel - Break even. Fills a foreign figure void, AF void, and is a new character. But it is still a repaint of a not great figure and not a lot of US media presence for her.

Topside - You'll get your money back at first since he's a continuation of the 25th line and a navy guy, but he's not a top tier character. Prices drop after the initial rush to get him.

Cover Girl - Depends on the sculpt but Break Even or better if they give her a coat.

Big Boa - Money. Classic Cobra named character redone in 25th. People will dig this figure.

Nano BAT - Break even. Being an army builder saves him from losing money. People love it or hate it.

Jinx - Money. Classic character from GI Joe animated movie done in 25th.

Barrel Roll - Break even depending on sculpt. If they use a decent body I think current collectors will dig the character enough to scoop him up. If they use a bad sculpt he won't move at all. But casual fans won't be clamoring for it.

Iron Claw - Money. Weird that a villain from a failed incarnation of GI Joe is getting so much attention but fans are willing to plunk done the coin just for this guy.

Sure Fire - Break even depending on sculpt. No media presence. Nobody but recent collectors know the character.

Dice - Money. Fills a void and has some comic and DiC media. Later year figure though and a purple ninja to boot so I don't see people clamoring for him but I see enough people wanting one to keep the prices up for a while.

Tan Grunt - Loss. Nobody is going to go out of their way to get this at the per figure asking price. Then when the price drops people will jump on it at the discounted price to army build.

TNT - Break Even. I almost went with Loss on this but if they do the paint job right it could look like a crash crew firefighter which might garner some more interest. The base figure isn't good and if they stick to the actual foreign colors it won't be for everybody.

They should stop releasing the pictures and start informing us about the cost already.
Right now, from what I read each time a picture is released, this whole subscription thing will be a dud because people are already angry with the majority of the figures shown without even knowing the price.

as for this Grunt figure, I like it since that body sculpt was one of the best of the 25th. Simple, yet the figures could take great poses. Kudos for the mini glider, too.

Keep in mind, specifically in regards to the PoC Snake Eyes tooling... there is a lot of tooling that Hasbro is still using and still has control over, and its very likely the Club can't get access to it. That being said, I'm still not all that excited about this figure, but just so you realize why they didn't use some of that more recent tooling supply.

Not to mention a lot of collectors these days seem really into this straight up vintage reproduction stuff. Not sure why...
