And here's a second logo, basically "Oktober Guard" in Russian using a font similar to G.I.Joe lettering. Couldn't find the original paperwork, so here it is as it appears on the side of an APC I customized for the Guard's use.

Meh i don't know if the Russian makes sense to be honest.

I think "Oktober Guard" is one of those names that cannot be translated perfectly and so you have to go with something that is close in nature but far enough away to sound comfortable and sensible in Russian.

Gvardiya is a perfect word for Guard IMHO
and you can go Oktyab'rskaya Gvardiya or something along those lines.

Like this for instance
Октябрьская Гвардия

In fact I'm going to use something somewhat similar for my grandfather's fc when i get done with it.

Fair enough. I don't speak Russian. All I did in this instance was look up the words "October" and "Guard" in a Russian-English dictionary and proceeded from there. It's sufficient for me, and I just wanted to share them. Sorry you weren't pleased.

Dude I'm not judging just discussing :rotfl:
I understand completely where you were coming from (if you put the word October by itself in a dictionary it would give you the standard defintion not the way the word modifies in order to flow in conjunction with another word: in this instance Guard or Karaul).

That right there is cool...I've often wondered how it would really translate (or closely translate)..now I know...and I think I'm going to borrow that idea. Thanks for that bit of info Rasputin.

It occurred to me that I showed a small portion of my customized Oktober Guard APC, without showing the full vehicle. While it's nowhere near as fancy a custom as my figures, I decided to submit it to the Custom Queue anyway. Hopefully it'll be up soon for viewing. :-D

OK, this one I can definitely get into big time.

One of my favorite factions, the Oktober Guard. Hot Damn!

Fifteen figures in the main set?
Requisite parachute drop figure?
Three other figures in a set?
Big vehicle?
Small vehicle?
Other item (Giveaway)?

I'm gonna make some suggestions that take parts from a number of vendors, and based on their appearances in Marvel (1-155, Yearbooks, Special Missions), DDP, and several photos...

http://gijoe.wikia.com/wiki/Oktober_Guard
http://www.myuselessknowledge.com/joe/og.html

1) Colonel Brekhov: New head sculpt based on a modded Red Star w/cigar (like the 25th Breaker bubble gum). Comic Pack body re-colored in tan like first appearance (Marvel #6). Include backpack and MJ's AK-47 w/Grenade Launcher. Cap to be re-done as smaller and/or non-removable. See above links for pic...

2) Daina-New mold based on the Yearbook mission. Has tan/khacki shorts, wifebeater, and pilot helmet. Includes MJ's Dragonuv SVD rifle and backpack. Alternate uniform would be her 'Vorona' outfit from Devil's Due, or the 'World War III' version.

3) Horrorshow-New mold to account for accurate size. Includes grenade bag filled with chicken drumsticks (Yearbook #4?), MJ's RPG, RPG rocket case, and a new AK-47 on a sling. See above link for pic...

4) Stormavik-Same mold used in the comic pack, but use Taurus legs with brown paint apps on the kneepads and modded wrist Dial-Tone arms for the pads at the elbows. Must include the PPSh-41 weapon from the Red Star 25th pack, backpack, and kitbag. See above link for pic.

5) Shrage-New recipe, including Mace head sculpt and painted in green. Include MJ's RPK PKM Machine Gun w/drum pouches or kitbag. See above link for pic...

6) Dragonsky-New recipe using Armadillo torso (or similiar), Salvo head, and appropriate other parts to recreate his outfit on the train from the Marvel Yearbook mission. Alternate would be a newer version of the comic pack one with modded Wild Weasel helmet, or use the torso based on the green Star Brigade Duke. Include Flamethrower pack and weapon.

7) Red Star-Use same mold as original, but in darker brown, to include all original accessories. Again, cap is to be smaller and/or non-removable.

8) Big Bear-Use same mold as original, but needs new head sculpt to reflect bushier beard in DDP 'World War III' and detail paint apps on web gear. Could also include soft rubber winter collar piece. See link for pic. http://www.wizarduniverse.com/062408gijoeww3commentary3.html

9) Wong-Must use recipe to re-create the cartoon look, but fit in with the rest texture wise (ie-no brighter colors). Use Hasbro's Star Wars POTF Bespin Guard head sculpt and include cowboy hat and appropriate gear.

10) Lt. Gorky-New mold recipe to better recreate his appearance in Marvel #101. Must be done in black with appropriate unit markings. Includes suitable weapons, backpack, and gear (pouches, kitbag). Alternate uniform could reflect his Devil's Due America's Elite appearance in the Czech Republic.

11) Sgt Misha-redone to avoid the 'sunburn' color of the Comic Pack. Needs smaller/accurate hat. Includes suitable weapons, backpack, and gear (pouches, kitbag)

12) Volga-Use same mold as original, or the Daina/Lady Jaye smaller version-but must get rid of the blandness and colors. Equip with suitable AK-47, backpack, and gear.

13) Ruslan-Needs suitable ARAH recipe, possibly Blizzard torso and Windchill waist? Include AK-47, backpack, and gear (pouches, kitbag). See Big Bear link for pic.

14) Russian Pilot-Could be a recipe based on the Antonuv Condor Pilots on Marvel #101, or a new recipe that would give us a MiG Pilot.

15) Motor Rifle Trooper (Tanker)-New recipe using suitable parts, MUST include the Tanker helmet!

Parachute Trooper: Would be based on the Airborne Troops (VDV-"Vozdushno-Desantnye Vojska") and use the Big Bear mold with a new head and paint apps. Obviously it would come with parachute and appropriate weapons and gear.

The 3-Pack (4-pack, 5-pack?) of 'redshirts':

1) Sailor-New recipe to use arms and torso that could have the gray/black stripped shirt (check out the movie 'K-19 Widowmaker' for example)

2) Spetsnaz-Use the Sgt Misha recipe with different heads and add a 25th Snow Job-type hood (without the fur). I suggest the DTC Barrel Roll head as a start. Could be based on the three Spetsnaz troopers from the Special Mission story...

3) Vympel (Russian Special Forces)-New recipe with appropriate gear. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vympel

4) Alpha/Beta Counter-Terrorism Trooper-New recipe with appropriate gear. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_Group

5) Combat Swimmer/Scout Diver-New recipe with appropriate gear. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_commando_frogmen

I'd also love to see some other 'redshirts' using the black Big Bear International version (the mail-in ) or the gray Lt Gorky (97 3-pack) using new headsculpt.

Big Vehicle-The Oktober Guard have never had a single vehicle for their ranks, which is unacceptable. I would suggest using several options:

1) Chap Mei Police Force APC modded to reflect the Yearbook Mission in Afghanistan. Needs bigger gun and accessories, refer to ZombieGuide's awesome custom: http://www.joecustoms.com/customs/customs_specific_item.php?kind=vehicle&thumbs=on&id=130

2) Midgarns' Oktober Guardian Mk 2: http://www.joecustoms.com/customs/customs_specific_item.php?kind=vehicle&thumbs=on&id=361

3) SSgt Groover's Oktober Guardian: http://www.joecustoms.com/customs/customs_specific_item.php?kind=vehicle&thumbs=on&id=316

4) A modded Ice Sabre http://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/04/icesabre/

5) I guess even a Russian DUKW like Indiana Jones had in KOTCS might work too.

Small Vehicle-The Oktober Guard should have at least had their 'Kremlin Kiddie Kart' from Marvel #6 made. There are several 6-wheeled Corps vehicles that could be used, and several have actually been customized already: http://www.joecustoms.com/customs/customs_listing.php?kind=vehicle&thumbs=on&catid=6. I personally have purchased four of these http://shop.nickjr.com/sm-yo-gabba-gabba-plex-buggy-with-plex-character--pi-3228183.html http://yogabbagabba.tystoybox.com/ttp/Yo-Gabba-Gabba-Playsets-Plex-Buggy/cPath/10439/products_id/127108.htmlfor the sole purpose of making several versions, including an engineering one with a crane and blade.

For the Giveaway Vehicle-I would suggest the Chap Mei Police Force Mini-Tank: http://www.joearmory.com/chapmeiminitank.aspx I don't know enough about Russian combat vehicles to state whether it should have a cannon, a tank gun barrel, or a mortar. It should come equipped with a platform AND a parachute to simulate the 'Red Dawn'-style invasion by the VDV.

The only other suggestion I can even think of would be to totally think outside the box and do customs based on the 'what could have been Oktober Guard', the 'Pravda Patrol':

http://treasuresntoys.com/webcampoktoberguard.htm

Then we could have figures based on: Captain Yuri, Big Bear, Mouse, Striker, and Sachi.

Honestly, I can't see what would be in it for Master Collector to do an Oktober Guard themed con set. Even painted differently, I don't think too many people would pay 5x retail for the comic pack figures they already bought at or below retail. Plus no army builders means less bagged set sales.

It's a sure fire money loser.

And if you think Master Collector is going to pony up the cash for a completely new sculpt Horrorshow to sell 1000 copies, I'm sorry, but you're deluding yourself. That's not the way things work.

The ONLY way I could see Master Collector doing something similar to what you're suggesting is if they were to include an Oktober Guard member here or there in future con sets or MAYBE a 3 or 4 pack to go with a larger theme.

Even then, I wouldn't expect to see the guys we've gotten in comic packs. More than likely Master Collector would go with new characters or others who haven't seen the light of day for quite some time.

Wong would be an almost shoo in. Use the Wild Bill V2 body with a different head and you're pretty close.

Big Bear would be my second Guess since many casual fans probably don't even know who he is. Paint his original mold with a realistic Russian camo of some sort.

Red Star done up similarly to the Big Bear above is another possibility.

Ruslan is a remote possibility, though he was pretty forgettable. Almost anything would work for him.

A surprise member could be Volga, revealed to NOT be Daina after all, but a former Soviet Olympic womans weightlifter and now the OG's vehicle driver/mechanic (OK I cheated a little. That's the bio I gave my Volga, because she sure aint Daina!). Use the 98 Volga Head, Jinx's torso, Pathfinder arms, and Jady Jaye waist and legs. Make her in a tan t-shirt with the same Russian camo on her fatigue pants.

I'm not trying to be a downer. I LOVE the Oktober Guard! But I really don't see Master Collector doing something different enough with the concept to justify an entire con set devoted just to them.

Well if that was direct at me, as stated I don't expect them to make a new mold at all. I would expect to create at best maybe a vinyl shirt in the needed pattern to cover a decent generic torso.
They have created individual parts, and if need be and they decided to they could do it again.
This is for one.

For two, they have gone with the headhunters for God sake. It wasn't even Headhunters. It was half BATS and crap. Why did people really want a repainted Gristle, Overlord, or any of many characters of a way secondary nature than the OG (how about the ultra phail individual army builder dreadnok fiasco? Who really wanted a Thrasher they could get for way cheap online (with or without his football stick).

The OG sets I will have ye know are still pretty good sellers on ebay. Why, if people are paying 30 bucks for a 3 pack with Horrorshow, 20 for one with Brekhov, (not to mention the 20-30 for the 98 one with only Volga's body really being a saving grace) would they not pay for it more or less than what the other con sets have brought in (as losers or winners?)

I mean you admit you love the Guard. Ok, so under no circumstance would you buy them?

I understand if it is a complete crock, but even the worst set like the Dreadnoks, did a bang up paint job of horrible and unnecessary characters.

These are all necessary, an integral part of the lore, and if done correctly IMHO would be a very desirable con set. Heck It could even surpass the 05, or 07 set if done right.

Oh and I like the idea for a Volga to be a steroided up body builder like ivan Drago.
The body is too feminine i guess and too cool, but slap that head on a movie liu kang or a sea slug torso with some beefcake arms and you got yourself a heck of an interesting character. :rotfl:

And a great tie in would be a 2 pack of 12 inch Spetznat troopers. One sniper and one infantryman.

Since Hasbro bought Kenner, and Kenner owned Tonka, Hasbro ought to see if they can dig up the tools for that old Tonka 6-wheel ATV and retool it a little. :shifty:

As much as I like the Oktober Guard, I am not sure having a full set of them is the way to go. What about creating some new Russian/ex Soviet bad guys that have ties to Cobra. Give them a unique name. Create some army builders to with them. It would be just like Action Force vs the Red Shadows but comrade style.
