The project has very few of the gold versions of characters. Initially one of the gold versions was an all-in exclusive, which made it seem to me that even though they were not really going for the retro look, they were attempting to force some people to buy the all in just to get the gold figure. After a lot of complaining from the backer base about that, they made the gold figure available as an add on rather than an exclusive with the all in. That was good and made people happy, then they put up that thing about the paint which came off to some as a comment saying, hey if you really want just gold figures, go paint them yourself.
For me, the gold figures were unique and interesting enough to buy. The rest of the modern line is too similar to figures and parts that I can get for $6 a figure from hasbro. But I'm mainly a customizer for 4 inch figures, so I have a different outlook than a figure collector I guess. If they had a package with all the gold versions initially, I would have gone for that.
that pretty much sums it up. and the gold spray paint joke came very quickly after announcing the gold Cat was no longer an all in exclusive.
i personally didnt have the eagle force as a kid, simply because they were in the wrong scale. so im not overly obsessed with them being gold, but simply being regular old green army men to me is very boring. i want something that stands out a little more from the tons of joes, the marauder figures, all the BBI and 21st century figures. if they are just making normal green/brown military figures they dont really need the eagle force name. and if they use the eagle force name then you expect something a little different from green.
but really thats all fine, they can do whatever they want with their license, just dont be smart ass to people for no reason.
