without sifting through the whole thread - I apoligize if it's already been referenced, but I just read an interview highlighted now on another site where Chu (pre announcement) was talking about the choice to do the film in 2D rather than 3D. Basically said he wanted to do 3D, but the studio cut the budget so that it didn't allow for it, and he told the higher ups even then that it's an entirely different movie that gets made, filmed entirely different with 3D in mind versus 2D. Said basically he committed and went all in for the 2D process.

It's a real funny read in light of the stated reasons for the push-back. And really shows the move now for the botch-job that it is. 3D movies are suspect for me even when filmed to be in 3D. Half-assing it to be 3D though is not going to make the movie any better. whether or not it sells better as a result is for people smarter than me.

I mean holy crap people, you act like its the end of the world. The movie may actually benefit from the delay (the toys are screwed though), and in all likelihood, you'll all hate it anyway once you see it cuz that's how Joe fans roll.

Lance makes a good point. This could be great for the movie. Moving it from the crowded summer to the less crowded spring could potentially make this the first blockbuster of 2013. I certainly hope that is the case because I really want more big screen G.I. Joe and for the franchise and toyline to survive they need something big like a blockbuster movie.

But what I think most people are upset about is that they waited until the last minute to move the film. If they had stated back in January that the movie was being bumped to allow for 3-D I don't think as many people would be upset. But a month out from the release is just piss-poor timing and not a good sign no matter how you spin it.

The point is, Paramount is going to push this back. Boycotting it at this point doesn't hurt Paramount as much as it hurts Hasbro and future Joe products. Sure, maybe the line could benefit from a "deth", but the movie figures aren't that bad. We're just spoiled.
