Good review in general, covered all the details one needs to know about this particular new sculpt figure, but I was a little concerned about the anti-25th undertones between the lines. Maybe it was just me but it's fairly clear that S6/DTC/GvC/ST are better favoured in both reviewers' opinions but does this mire any objectivity in reviewing future 25th figures?

Until G.I. Joe the movie we may never see a completely new character in 25th style compared to all the new characters from those new sculpt lines because I dont think that was the object of the 25th line to begin with. So while it's cool we got Bombshell, Barrell Roll, and Blackout et. al. we shouldn't expect that treatment in the 25th line, at least not yet anyways. The 25th was also a collector's line to begin with, so playability/durability probably was not in the overal scope of the project design, and as for sculpting - well I think we can both argue the merits of which sculpting is better, new sculpt vs 25th - and never get anywhere.

While the vintage crew have stayed true to their ARAH heritage, I think it's a little general to say some of the fandom have blindly accepted/flocked to the 25th over new sculpt. The 25th has some major flaws - diaper crotches in the first few waves, duke arms that haunt us to this day, tiny accessories that fall apart when you breath on them, pre-positioned Viper hands. Nothing is perfect, but I dont think fans are blindly running to the 25th.

While I'm happy for fellow collectors to have the opportunity to start building their BATs army earlier, I must admit my heart sinks a little when I see one guy with 160 wave 9 BATs and another guy with 12 wave 9 BATs even before they are released to retail! :-/

This is definitely going to be a HOT wave for all of us, I dont think I've seen a single negative opinion about the 25th BATs from the various Joe communities I frequent.

So are you saying that people can't express an opinion that isn't 100% pro 25th, I hate to say it but that is the way that statement is coming accross. You like them, fine, great. Some don't, fine great. I don't see the problem if someone expresses an opinion that isn't "BEST SCULPT EVA!!!" as long as its sane and non-combative. Yet it seems some vocal people can't handle it, I say sorry but everyone has the right to review thier figures as they see fit, its subjective and being "concerned about the anti-25th undertones" just sounds like saying "I like them, leave it alone, quit expressing an opposite view!!!one1!"

zed why must you read everything like it's an attack?

I'm not trying to rock the boat. Their review is very extensive and I've liked many of their previous reviews - but in this one, the comparison with the collector club and the 25th is pretty much there, everywhere.

I'm not pro-25th, I proudly display my vintage figures too. I like when they talk about the new sculpt Cobra Commander and his features etc. but some of the statements made towards the 25th (which I mentioned above) was a bit general I thought.

Good review, kids.

My thoughts on the question posed: what about the NS stuff being tossed aside?

I agree that the NS was like a bad experiment gone awry. I think there are MANY gems in the overall collection. I think NS was really starting to find thier footing around the time of VVV. This CC figure is definetely one of the better figures.

Because some people have some general opinions maybe?

Sorry but I just didn't see the need for that type of responce, people have thier opinions is all, it comes accross like makeing a general statement about 25th that is negitive is a bad thing, it really isn't its an opinion, you don't have to agree with it, but it is still subjective to the individual.

[quote="Bandalero"].......... but I was a little concerned about the anti-25th undertones between the lines. Maybe it was just me but it's fairly clear that S6/DTC/GvC/ST are better favoured in both reviewers' opinions......[quote]

See, I wasn't getting that. I saw them pointing out the merits of the other lines in comparison to the 25th. In doing so they also pointed out flaws in new sculpt lines as well. To say "I like new sculpt" does not equate to "it is better than 25th". I saw the review as very well done with an open mind and fair to all lines.

Edit: The "Duke, I am your Father" pic was one of the funniest things I have seen in a while :)

That's the point right there! This was inherently subjective and it's fine that we have all opinons but your argument to me is that I can't comment on someone's opinion? If someone has an opinon on this board, the rest of us are banned from commenting on their opinion?

There is subjectivity in everything, but when I read reviews I'm looking for objectivity. What are the pros and cons of the subject matter. It's what I do when I read a newspaper article - I dont look for the journalists bias, I'm trying to find some objective fact to help me form my own opinion on the matter. It's also the reason I read movie reviews for a variety of critics instead of one, so that I can decipher some objectivity overall.

Like I said the review in general was great, especially when they described the figure, the sculpt, its utility. But MY opinion is that there was more subjectivity in there than objectivity - that's all - period. I'm not rallying a pro-25th demonstration here for pete's sake (not the greek!)

I really dont think I was out of line and I think I've done my best to express what were my thoughts. I'm not going to only type "nice review guys!", if Justin or Fred took it personally then that was not my intention.

anyways, end of story I dont want to continue this.

Are those 25A BATs in the background of that picture??

And if so... whose are they and where did you get them?

(if it's Justin, I don't want to hear one more word about distribution issues from you, mister!)

1 - Yes

2 - Mine and "top secret". :shifty:

I just wanted to say, too, that I appreciate Bandy's comments, I'll take any constructive criticism or whatever. I certainly wasn't intending to badmouth one over the other, I love both the o-ring style and the Anniversary style...

Glad you guys are liking the reviews!

Justin

All in presentation read again:

but I was a little concerned about the anti-25th undertones between the lines.

That isn't just commenting on an opinion, that is implying the opinion stated is just wrong. A similar statement would be made in relation to "taboo topics on the board" undertones in any other review. A bit extream example but that is the exact wording you would see in such circumstances.

From that point anything else said comes accross as its wrong to say ANYTHING about 25th. Maybe that wasn't the intention, but that was the presentation.

That's a pretty snazzy CC. I like the fact that he looks ready to lead the troops into battle with a technologically advanced suit but maintains a regal appearance. Now to see if I can snag one.
