Save the date for Saturday, November 8th, as Codename: Iowa presents the 4th Annual Assembly Required. Join your fellow GI Joe Collectors in a free, fun gathering celebrating everyone's favorite action figure. This year's AR will be held at the Des Moines Social Club in downtown Des Moines from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Declassified is the only other one I know of right now beside Joecustoms, but they are still in the process of lining up sponsors and attendees, so that could change.

Seriously, if you want to go to a nice, affordable, GI Joe show Assembly Required fits the bill. Unlike other, larger GI Joe conventions, AR is about celebrating everyone's favorite Real American Hero and not about milking a cash cow. I see more kids having fun and participating in events than I have at any Joecon, and it's good to see someone trying to keep GI Joe alive for younger generations.

*There are a few delaer tables remaining for $60 each, if you are interested email the organizers at hq@codenameiowa.com but don't delay.

*There will be custom contests in the following categories:
12"
3 3/4", 4",1/18 scale, Leatherneck scale
Vehicles
Kre-O

*The raffles are near legendary, and if you buy tickets you have a really good chance of scoring a prize or two. Last year's grand prize was a MIB WHALE.

*If you are coming from out of town there is a special AR rate at the nearby Hyatt:

There are a limited number of reserved rooms available at the Downtown Des Moines Hyatt Place for a discounted rate. The details aren't posted yet, but in years past with the custom contests the entries are set up in the morning and are assigned a number. Everyone who attends get a vote for each of the categories.

As far as rules the contests are for one figure/vehicle each, up to two entries per category. The Kre-O contest can use Lego/Mega Bloks, etc. but must have Kre-O figures in the display.
