Zombieguide: Yes, this my first post, as I have returned from the ether. I'd lost my password an unfathomable amount of time ago, and then ... well I'm sure everyone has felt the woes/ stresses of an unstable economy, so I shan't go into the details/ plight of a Contractor in the State of California, except to say that those of us in that proffession (Especially those of us who feel the need to be honest, straightforward, and proffessional) experienced the "downswing" a good year before everybody else and I discovered, in the most painful and humiliating manner possible, just how the canary in the coal mine feels.
Paxil-guy: Yes I am am well aware just how my post must read: like one of those insane, anal-retentive GI Joe collectors, whom most people prefer to dismiss as the lunatic fringe of the hobby; like the collectors who feel compelled to dissassemble GI Joes before buying them to ensure there aren't any strips of paper around shoulder joints/ etc to tighten the joint, or the knee peg hasn't been painted with clear nail polish, etc.
I'm not like that. Over the past couple of years Applying the sticks to GI Joe vehicles has really been the only tether still connecting me to the hobby.
You bought toys over food? This is just one of the many reasons why so many countries hate Americans...
To say that life had/ has been mind-numbingly, and soul-shatteringly stressful is such an understatement that it borders on farce.
So, one of the ways in which I would cope is by nabbing a GI Joe vehicle (sometimes in lieu of eating.) and sit down with application tools: the aforementioned vernier calipers and micrometer, as well as all manner of tweezers, Stanley Hobby blade, (X-acto isn't made in USA anymore.) small round mirror, several cloths for wiping down the application site (Had the most success with those used for wiping sunglasses.) etc etc etc.
And, for the hours it took to apply the sticks, all that mattered was the absolutely flawless positioning and application of the sticks. I'd enter this amazing zone where worries and cares and problems fall away like a tree undressing itself of leaves on a blustery Autumn day. There is a clear purpose, a defined beginning, middle, and end.
With the Skystriker, I feel cheated, because the game is "rigged" so to speak. It's a flat sticker on a VERY curved surface. Naturallly it's driving me batty because Applying sticks is really the only thing I can do successfully to "relax" and well, I'm stymied.
I shall try the Soap method, and I want to thank all of you for your insights, and please if you have more please keep them coming.
