Hello,

I had already typed up this appeal for help previously, but I spose it has been lost to the ether that the internets is comprised of.

Sticker number 40, on the Skystriker, has proven to be the bane of my gi joe collecting hobbie.

I am rather obsessive regarding my vehicle sticks, going so far as to plot their application sites with vernier calipers and a micrometer.

There is no way that I can find to apply this label without error.

Is there anyone, and I mean anyone, who can offer some advice on how to apply this label without air bubbles, wrinkles, and so on and so forth. please enlighten me.

I already have 4 Skystrikers I have now relegated to the "mothball fleet" Which is my quaint nickname for the 3 Large Home Depot moving boxes which contain gobs of GI Joe/ Cobra Vehicles that I have, and that I no longer care about, since the sticks are not flawless.

HELP!!!

Let a kid stick it on. Get over it. Enjoy the Plane.

Sorry I don't have any useful advice, I've yet to even open a new Sky Striker.

Oh...if you happen to cut yourself badly and are bleeding or in any major life threatening situation, proceed to the nearest hospital...don't stop to ask advice on the board :hypnoshield: :crystalball: :shifty:

Apply soapy water to the spot the sticker goes on. Put the sticker on, while it's still wet. Use a soft towel to press the water out from under the sticker, starting at the middle. The sticker will move around, until the water has been pressed out, so be careful.

Happy Disclaimer: This works great on bicycle frame stickers, but I've never tried with GI Joe vehicle stickers. Good luck.

Is this the curved sticker for the front of the plane? I don't have the instructions right in front of me. I do have a solution for you, if this is the sticker I'm thinking about.

Professionally speaking as a sign maker, the soap trick works and there's also the needle trick. I generally use this idea since whatever air bubbles I get usually are so few it's not worth the soap and water. Just lay the sticker down as easy as you can to decrease as any bubbles as you can, then use a needle and poke a tiny hole in the center of the bubble. Press it down and the air releases. If you didn't drag the needle or use too big of one, you won't see the hole you made.

Thomas: Yes it is the sticker directly in front of the canopy.

Zombieguide: Yes, this my first post, as I have returned from the ether. I'd lost my password an unfathomable amount of time ago, and then ... well I'm sure everyone has felt the woes/ stresses of an unstable economy, so I shan't go into the details/ plight of a Contractor in the State of California, except to say that those of us in that proffession (Especially those of us who feel the need to be honest, straightforward, and proffessional) experienced the "downswing" a good year before everybody else and I discovered, in the most painful and humiliating manner possible, just how the canary in the coal mine feels.

Paxil-guy: Yes I am am well aware just how my post must read: like one of those insane, anal-retentive GI Joe collectors, whom most people prefer to dismiss as the lunatic fringe of the hobby; like the collectors who feel compelled to dissassemble GI Joes before buying them to ensure there aren't any strips of paper around shoulder joints/ etc to tighten the joint, or the knee peg hasn't been painted with clear nail polish, etc.

I'm not like that. Over the past couple of years Applying the sticks to GI Joe vehicles has really been the only tether still connecting me to the hobby.

To say that life had/ has been mind-numbingly, and soul-shatteringly stressful is such an understatement that it borders on farce.

So, one of the ways in which I would cope is by nabbing a GI Joe vehicle (sometimes in lieu of eating.) and sit down with application tools: the aforementioned vernier calipers and micrometer, as well as all manner of tweezers, Stanley Hobby blade, (X-acto isn't made in USA anymore.) small round mirror, several cloths for wiping down the application site (Had the most success with those used for wiping sunglasses.) etc etc etc.

And, for the hours it took to apply the sticks, all that mattered was the absolutely flawless positioning and application of the sticks. I'd enter this amazing zone where worries and cares and problems fall away like a tree undressing itself of leaves on a blustery Autumn day. There is a clear purpose, a defined beginning, middle, and end.

With the Skystriker, I feel cheated, because the game is "rigged" so to speak. It's a flat sticker on a VERY curved surface. Naturallly it's driving me batty because Applying sticks is really the only thing I can do successfully to "relax" and well, I'm stymied.

I shall try the Soap method, and I want to thank all of you for your insights, and please if you have more please keep them coming.

You bought toys over food? This is just one of the many reasons why so many countries hate Americans...

That's sort of what I thought. That was the only sticker that gave me fits, too, because of that trapezoid-shaped raised area right at the front of the canopy that the sticker can't compensate for.

I suspect the solutions offered by the other respondents are perfectly valid, but here's what I did, and it worked surprisingly well, although it is a little tricky.

Take the sticker, and very carefully cut a trapezoid shape out of it that matches the position, size and shape of the raised area on the plane. That's the really tricky part. I have a pretty good eye for such things, and I'd have to say I got REALLY lucky by matching it almost precisely.

This essentially gives you two labels. One for the raised area and one for the rest of the plane. Put the larger label down first, then very carefully the smaller one. You might want to cut the smaller one just a little bigger than the raised area on the plane, so it can taper down a bit.

I was honestly amazed at how well this worked. Good luck!

Trekker's suggestion is the only way ti will work. They changed the canopy but didn't change the shape of the sticker to compensate. There was no rasied area on the original like that.
