In my continued frustration of looking for a ROC Kamakura figure I find myself running down in my head the list of stores that are within easy (30 Miles or less) drivng distance, and I wanted to compare them with others.

For the record, I live in Central Iowa, which gives me Des Moines as my major search area, I have:

Wal-Marts: 7
Targets: 6
TRU: 2
Big Lots: 1
Tuesday Morning: 1
TJ Maxx: 3
Marshall's: 1
K-Mart: 2

We're divided by a rather inept highway system which keeps people split largely between east side and west side. In other words there may be more but I only roll on the west and near east side...

Within easy walking distance:

Walmart Supercenter
Ross

Within moderate walking distance (about three miles)

Tuesday Morning
Big Lots
Target

Throughout the Tucson area

Toys "R" Us - 2
Kmart - 1 (and it's generally not worth the effort)
Additional Targets - 7 that I can think of offhand, including one recently transformed into a Super Target
Additional Walmarts - 5 that I can think of offhand, although I'm fairly sure I'm forgetting a couple, and two of them generally have wretched toy sections. It's not always the same two, either.
Add to that at least two other Ross stores, although I'm sure I'm missing a few, at least one TJMaxx, and one Marshalls.

I had no idea that there were any Marshall's or Tuesday Mornings in the Des Moines area.

My brother lives in Winterset, so I am always stopping by the Toy R Us' in Des Moines (University Ave TRU more so than the Army Post Road TRU) and usually the Mills Civic Parkway Target and Wal-Mart.

Now I'm going to have to look up the locations of those other three stores, so maybe I can actually find some of the great items that have been turning up there (like the Best of the 80's DVD Pack).

Just noticed that you also have a Big Lots listed too!!! We lost ours a few years ago. Now I have to look that one up too, to try and feed my PTE fix.

Looks like my travel time between CR and Winterset just doubled :-/

Back to the topic:

I have:

1- Toys R Us
3- Wal-Marts
2- Targets
2- K Marts
1- Gordman's
1- TJ Maxx
1- Kohl's

We have one Marshall's in DM, not 2, my bad. Anyways, it's located on University Ave right by the Best Buy. Last time I was in they have DVD packs 1 & 2. The Tuesday Morning is located in Ankeney and the Big Lots is on Merle Hay Road. The good thing about DM is most of these stores are clustered together so you can hit most of them in an afternoon.

My general driving area (20 miles or less):

Target - 10
Walmart - 5
K-Mart - 5
Toys R Us - 7
Kohl's - 4
Marshall's - 6
T.J. Maxx - 5
A.J. Wright - 2
Big Lots - 1

Sadly, most of these stores' toy departments are full of pegwarmers due to living in scalper central but I do luck out occasionally at some of the farther out stores.

Within 50 miles:

1 Evil Empire

Within 80 miles:

10 + Evil Empires
6 Targets
1 Toys R us

With in 150 miles:

??? Evil Empires
14 Targets
3 Toys R Us

And yes I do consider 150 miles to be within my area.

My toy buying area on the other had stretches just over 1,000 miles from my home, it just depends on how often I make trips.

Well, within my usual radius, which is the TRUs within a half hour or so . . .

TRU- 5
Target- 18 plus (Target is based here, so we have a ton of 'em)
Wal-Mart- 10 (though about half of those are usually worthless)
K-Mart- 6
Marshalls- Dunno, around 10
TJ Maxx- also around 10
Walgreens- more than 20, but I never bother with em.
Family Dollar- 10 or so, but I haven't checked any since they got cleaned out of the VvV single packs.
BigLots- 3, one of which I never check, and down from 5 a year or two ago.

and that's about it for the places I usually hit. There's one small shop in the area that has a decent toy selection (and decent prices) but it's out of the way, and the owner rubs me the wrong way, so I don't go there often.
