So I'm looking at the '83 Duke, and just noticed the bandolier only appears on the torso, and seems to magically stop at the shoulder: it's not there in the back.

I'm sure this has been discussed before... Any ideas why the sculptors omitted such a big detail? It seems like they would otherwise focus on being as detailed as possible, but obviously this has been a miss on this particular torso.

I've also noticed he shares the same back with Doc - could it be that they focused on production cost savings and decided to use the same back, even though it looked wrong?

I'm sure there are plenty of other examples like this one.

I think it was cost saving, because not only was the torso back used on Doc, it was also used on Spirit.

Right! I forgot about that. This must be cost saving indeed.

If you leave his backpack on, you cannot tell there is no detailing on the back. So it was probably a cost saving issue. Thats all I got....

cost saving, sure, but it could be that they want the bandolier to look like it faded in to the backpack, as though it was a backpack strap more so than anything else. not the way he was drawn in the comic, but still a possibility.

It seems that there are a lot of instance of part of the molded/painted figure being intended to line up with an accessory... straps that didn't go anywhere unless the figure was wearing its backpack, etc.

And as I'm saying that, I'm drawing a total blank on any examples.

Also, if the backs of and legs of figures were molded with many of these details, backpacks would not have fit onto the figures and many of them would not have fit into vehicles. (I think it's the Dragonfly that Ripcord won't fit into due to the pockets on his legs....) So, the missing sculpting was also functional.

I always wondered what's the purpose of the black ridged rectangle on V1 Low Lights left thigh?

Some people claim its to hold his uzi but I think its a bipod for his rifle.

When you think about it, figures like Dusty and Footloose actually have the straps that go over the back, even though they were supposed to wear backpacks on top of it. So I don't really know if the fact that having a backpack made those straps irrelevant details would really be the excuse here... I'm just a little confused, I'll admit that :-D

If you have the right uzi with the right molecules lined up, you can get it to fit with the top toward his leg and the grip sticking out for about three seconds. It doesn't work all that well. I think it was probably for something or some other figure that never got made with a certain accessory in mind.

Falcon has a mic on his shoulder that would be used with his backpack.

You're right about Dusty, but Footloose's straps are part of his web gear.

In his case, he literally had a peg that inserts into his back.

Sounds hardcore, a little stupid maybe? Well that's bazooka. Stupid Hardcore
