1990, still not a bad year at all IMO.
Sonic Fighters and Sky Patrol are not in.

Not a bad year for joes, but some of them lack that little extra. Bullhorn has great accessories, so does Ambush and Stretcher. Pathfinder was in this year, right? interesting accs. But I think all these figures have very anonymous molds.

Went with Sub Zero, cause he has a cool gun, and a great sculpt that makes sense.

Let's face it, 1990 was sort of an odd year. Lots of new characters, some interesting looks and specialties, but nobody that was really "up there" with a Duke or a Flint or a Snake-Eyes. I'm sort of wondering if the lack of anybody really spectacular in 1990 is what led to the start of so many new versions of established characters in 1991 through the remainder of the line.

I chose Free Fall, partially because I like the look of the figure, and partially because I felt the Joe Team needed some more paratroopers beyond just Rip Cord (and Sky Patrol) and they finally got one with Free Fall.

I know they weren't mentioned on the list, but really, Sky Patrol was a personal favorite from 1990 for me.

If you switched the Joes from 1990 with those from 1985 and built the media from '85 around the later figures, I think the 90 Joes would be heralded as the best crop ever. However, the lack of characterization hurt them. But, as figure, they pretty much all feature great, detailed molds, realistic colors and incredible accessories.

Overall, I went with Bullhorn just because the mask and backpack are such great additions to the figure. But, it's hard to go wrong with too many figures from this year.

Best year ever for both Joes & Cobras based on ratio of quantity to quality

I completely argee with everything Mike T. said. These are easily some of the best figures in the entire line and it was a pretty difficult choice. I went with Bullhorn for pretty much the same reasons (infact, I think it was Mike T.'s old review that caused me to look for this figure). Updraft is a very, very close second. Something so cool about that figure. Captain Grid Iron and Topside are pretty high on my list as well.

GridIron was very unique with his football helmet and was a cool character.
He was the last Joe I got as a "kid".

My actual favorite of that year is SF Tunnel Rat which his my next to last figure I got as a kid. He would be followed by Dropzone who's helmet was so cool and is still among my favorite helmet to this day.

I had to go with Pathfinder.

Mike T might be on to something with the lack of characterization holding back this year's crop of joes because i certainly don't have an affinity to any of them.

I like Pathfinder because he was An upgraded Recondo - I love Recondo! -but old joes make way for new joes and Pathfinder's weedwacker made him the team's Jungle trooper over Recondo's machette. I also like Pathfinder's unique camo colours.

i took freefall because I love paratroops. I dont however like his bp or gun too much. Updraft and cold front come in a very close tie for second.

pretty much the same feelings here. A lot of the choices were great. But I loved Sub Zero's weapons & Accessories.

I agree that this was a great year for Joe-it's hard to pick a favorite but I went with Freefall because of the great sculpt and colors plus my admiration for paratroopers.

Sky Patrol is another great subset from 1990.

Altho this is indeed a pretty decent crop of figs, it seems that most are having their votes decided by accessories. I wonder if the votes would fall differently if we were talking about just the fig itself.

Anyway, either including accessories or not, ColdFront still comes out on top for me (the Avalanche counts as an accessory, right?). The dude's just cool. Them thigh-high boots, the helmet with removeable visor and mic, the overall presence he has with just a teeny-tiny touch of the scifi vibe to him. I made him my Arctic Operations Field Commander, pretty much reporting directly to Hawk and in charge over all the other cold weather Joes, he's so cool.
