Hasbro said articulation is gonna vary on the figure, some will have good, some will be poor. The Darth Vader(Anakin) & Obi Wan 08 fig's have ball jointed hips, like Joe figures.

What also pisses me off is the drastic differences in scaling on these figs. I finally snagged a Kashyyyk trooper and was all excited until I stood him up next to some other troops -- it's like it was "bring your kid to the Empire day" or something - he's a full head shorter than the last Kashyyyk troop (the VOTC Biker Scout repaint) and his head is less than pea-sized. I'm glad I only got one of these - I stocked up on the repaint version and I'm glad I did - because this one sucks. I don't mind different-sized characters - variety is great. But clones are supposed to be, well, clones -- they should be at least comparable in height.

I was afraid of that. Glad I passed on the figure. I've been tempted to get the new Gree. A visual in-package side-by-side comparison with a previous Clone Trooper doesn't look TOO bad (what I should really do is take a loose Clone Trooper into the store with me at some point and make an even closer inspection), and I snagged the Imperial Jumptrooper the other day, and HE'S okay heightwise, but yeah, Star Wars does seem to be plagued with a bad case of "the incredible shrinking humans". To date, it's avoided the Clones since they were previous molds, but the new Kashyyyk trooper is just that -- all new. So I had a bad hunch. Makes me wonder how long I'll collect ANY Star Wars figures if they keep this up.
Not all Clones have used previous molds. The first shrunken Clone was saw was Commander Cody from 2006. Since there, there have been several new tooling Clones, such as the Galactic Marine, Commander Neyo and Commander Gree, and they haven't suffered shrinkage.

Hasbro explained that the problem was at the production level. Humidity and temperature can affect the toolings and materials, which is why it affects some figures, but not most of the others. Sometimes it affects repaints of previously released figures, such as the 2006 Saga Bespin Confession Vader.

I've been using a lot of Star Wars figures for my own customizing these days, and gotten to the point where I just think of my customs as statues due to the lack of articulation. Unfortunately Joe parts don't translate well into fantasy/adventure, so it's a trade-off I have to live with.

What I really hate though, is when the figures are posed in such a way that standing on their own is next to impossible; such as Arena Escape Padme (there's like one position, that if the leg is *slightly* out of alignment she'll topple right over) or Bultar Swan (stuck in a permanent squat). Not to mention the "twisted torso" style (typical of one verison of Padme) that means the figure only looks right if the torso is turned and posed from an angle...

But enough P&M from me, compared to 25A Joes these things are a godsend. :-)

Those two figures are not the worst culprits for bad poses in the SW range by a long shot. I have a couple of spare POTF2 Dagobah Luke figures. A couple of years ago I decided to straighten out the legs for a custom. I was brought to a sudden halt when I realised that when the legs are straightened, the left leg is almost a 1/4 inch longer than the right.

I myself am rather cautious about SW due to the articulation issues lately. Still I got suckered once or twice. What I hate is that the sites are VERY slow on updating the latest products in thier photo sections and trying to see what the articlation is through the package is difficult.

Still all isn't lost, there are some great figs with great articlation if you look hard enough.

Ah, ye olde 'it's not our sculptor's fault that temperature and humidity can warp solid-steel molds!' defense Hasbro used to explain the horrid proportion problems the JvC line was riddled with.

And I'll trot out the exact same response: it's amazing how this issue doesn't affect toylines from other companies, or other toylines from within the exact same company! What a pile of steaming bantha fodder.
