I'm at the library, checking out the selection of fine reading material and have come across a trade of the Hulk's tales from the UK Vaults. In back is a selection of covers and whatnot, and I see this image of what looks like Shockwave busting thru the window. The cover is dated 11/11/89, and I'm wondering if any of our members from Old Blighty know if it's a legit Hulk & GI Joe/Action Force crossover or maybe the cover artist swiped from the figure, or what. Any help, gents?

It's one of the more generic looking Joes, and other than the color scheme is a generic looking commando or swat dude on the cover. Not a stretch to say inspired by, but not a necessity either.

and here:

The story included Part 3 of GI Joe Special Missions #22.

Chad, do you know what other Joes besides shockwave were in that mini-series?

It was a reprinting of this:
http://www.yojoe.com/comics/sm/sm22.shtml

This was not a crossover, just a reprinting of a US Joe comic in the UK.

A lot of the American stories were reprinted in the UK. Some were also in the Transformers UK series. Here is some information:

As for the Joes in that issue; there was Shockwave, Lady Jaye, Hit N Run in a white variation of his costume, and maybe one other Joe.

Most appreciated, chad. It's really frickin' weird to see a Joe under a Hulk logo, lol.

So, which Joe should be given gamma-powers? What would the Hulk's codename be if he joined the team? I vote for 'Mean Green'.

I think it would have to be someone like Banner: Doc, Lifeline, Pysche-out, etc. Someone who is always toeing the line of peace vs violence.

As for his code name... whatever he wants!

I wonder if there were different restrictions for the depiction of child endangerment in the UK at the time, seems odd to redo the cover and have it be mostly the same... or was this common for the UK reprints?

I was kinda wondering that myself, although the UK cover is a lot more threatening than the US cover, the absence of the kid not included. SW's gun is aimed right at the dude's face, and his gun (entirely absent on the US cover) is pointed right at SW's dingus!
