The GI Joe Community Facebook page is an interesting place. It is like any forum minus the section breaks and pictures tend to push down interesting conversation. However, if you haven't liked the page then you are missing exchanges like this between Gary Goggles Head aka Gyre-Viper and John Warden, lead Hasbro designer for GI Joe.

I think that 22.5 foot custom Flag looks like pretty good scale for the actual planes (which are not actually 1/18) that Hasbro is building. And I bet that guy doesnt even have more then a couple hundred bucks into it. If I ever get room I would like to make me one of those like his.
