I'm gonna steal drbindy's idea.

Dark ninja (or whatever he's called): I knew from the jump that this figure was gonna rule. Hypno armybuilt his because I planted the awesome retro vibe of them in his head. They just make for awesome generic ninja thugs.

Flint: I like the headsculpt, but that figure just seems so spindly. I'm passing on this.

Lady Jaye On the fence about buying it. I like that Renegades body sculpt, but dislike the camo. I've seen that head on a 25th Lady Jaye, and that looks pretty good. Great accessory load out.

Colton Willis McClain, III I got this because I like the sculpt of the figure. Aesthetically, I'm not wild about the way the torso joint breaks the straps, and that they didn't paint the strap across the chest, but overall I do like this figure.

Roadblock v.2 On the fence about this one. I do love the sculpt, but I'm not wild about the holsters or the accessories. With the Ultimate Roadblock coming down the pipe (hopefully) this would just be a useless figure to me.

Movie Firefly I got this for the Zombieguide likeness, but ended up really liking the figure. I love the wild colors of the jacket, and plan on using it as is in my verse.

Snake Eyes (wave 2.5?) On the fence with this one too. It's just another flippin Snake Eyes.

Mouse I like the headsculpt on this one, but if you whip that torso armor off, he looks really spindly. Overall a solid figure, but it isn't very versatile.

Firefly (3-pack) Best Firefly yet. You cannot go wrong with this figure.

Red Trooper/Paratrooper (3-pack) I don't really feel one way or another about this figure. I have it, but it doesn't grab me. I may end up trading it.

Alley-Viper Easy pass. I'm so over Alley-Vipers. They're the new Crimson Whatevers of the Cobras.

Cyber-Ninja/Tron cosplay I ended up buying this because I like the design of it. I wanted to swap a Wraith head onto it, but lack the skill to do so as the head/neck are incompatible. I do wish it had a different chest, but it's kind of visually cool.

I saw some of the figures in the stores over the past few days. I haven't been paying super close attention to the past few years' Joe offerings, so forgive me if this has been debated before, but...

1- Firefly reminds me of Battle Luge guy from the Spy Troops (? or whatever it was) days.

2- Why does the Joe trooper come with a blue battle cape?

I found Battle Kata Rock and Flint last week, then picked up Colton, Lady Jaye, Cyber NInja, and Firefly last night.

I passed on the Ninja Duel Snake-Eyes and the Alley-Viper.

(1) He reminds many of us of Battle Luge Guy.

(2) No one really knows. The cape is blue supposedly only on the first shipments of the figure, and later versions have the cape/gas mask in brown.

I seem to remember reading around the time the first press images came out of the Wave 1 movie figures that the Joe Trooper's blue cape and mask were supposed to be a Cobra disguise. I can't remember where I saw that, though (I want to say MTV's news site because I think that's where the images debuted, but I'm not sure), so for all I know it was just speculation.

I've actually been pretty pleased with the Retaliation stuff thus far, but I'm coming at it from a customizing angle. As fodder, the figures are great: Mouse, the red Shock Trooper, and even the Roadblock figure (once you get rid of the ridiculous holsters on the legs) are really nice pieces, and there's a part or two on most of the figures that's worth having. The Dark Ninja is just a rad figure any way you look at it, and I've bought several without any real plan for them beyond having them all look awesome together. It's a nice enough figure that I'll think of something. I'm really looking forward the wave with the "ultimate" Duke and Roadblock, as well: it'll be great to have some fairly generic modern-military figures to play around with.

Oh, and I finally found a Retaliation Joe Colton figure who looks like he can read at an adult level. Out of probably 15 or 20 I've seen, this is the only one whose eyes are a respectable distance apart.

I actually really like the Cyber-Ninja because of the Tron vibe that drbindy cited. Granted, I'm a fan of both Tron movies, so that was doubtless a help.

Alley-Viper is very impressive. I'm still hoping one of these days to have the modern-style version in the classic colors that was in that Defense of Cobra Island 7-pack, but this is a good color scheme that is in many ways reminiscent of the original-style version that was done in gray and red.

I like the Dark Ninja, although that glider contraption he comes with doesn't want to stay put terribly well.

I was not impressed with the three-pack with Mouse and whomever else was in it. Just nothing there that really caught my attention.

On the other hand, the Cobra three-pack definitely got my attention. I wasn't too impressed with the Storm Shadow, but the Firefly is easily one of the best original-design-to-modern-figure carryovers I've seen, and I definitely like the Invasion Trooper, even if I think the neck is a little long. It's still a new Cobra trooper division, with an impressive design.

Hoping the line (and the movie) fare well enough to get to Kwinn and the Data-Viper.

I turned that Red Paratrooper figure into Baron Von Chill From Eagle Force just by adding accesories!

I love this wave of joes!

I realized I had picked up another Red Ninja. When I went to look for the receipt to take it back, it came up missing. One trade later I had a red MU Hand Ninja head available. Just head swapped last night. I need to tighten up the ball joint, but it works.

I think I'm gonna use Lady Jaye as Mayday though. All those weapons just didn't seem like LJ to me.

Hooray, New figures, finally.

Just a case of Wave 2 for me and the Tread Ripper.

Roadblock: A really nice sculpt, I don't care for the Battle Kata thingy, so I'll have to find some suitable repalcement holsters and puch the vest up and give him some real knives. The Spare RB is gonna become parts for a custom big-fella.

Snake-Eyes: Wish his plastic was in the legs, but I think the newer plastic is probably rather hardy and flexible, even if it's worrisome to the mind. The Spare is parts for a custom.

Storm-Shadow: A bit of a mess, once you strip him of his gear he's a lot better. Cut the front of his coat for better leg movement. The Vests are going to Cobra Troopers once the logo on the back is removed. The spare kindly donated his head and hands to the 1st RoC Stormshadow.

Flint: not bad. Not gonna keep him as is though. Head for an Action-man custom?

Firefly: Direly needs better legs and lower arms. At least till I get a 3-pack FF.

Red-Ninja: love'em, another for the clan (4 red and one 3-pack now)

Cobra Commander: didn't get this guy last year, thankfully he's the black version. Very cool. Again needs new legs, but being black makes it easier to find some in the spare parts department.

Joe Trooper: nuff said, solid and easy enough to swap a head on for a more personal generic or body for a custom.

Cobra Trooper: not sure what I'm gonna do with him or the other one I have. If only he'd had double knees and ankles.

Treadripper: What a piece of "LASER BLAST".

Clutch, save the head and partial vest, I'll cut the figure's boots off for a PTE locker or comical post explosion gag.

Nice, I was thinking about getting a 2nd Marauder 7-pack and using Mercer's Torso with Flint's head.

Also Dwayne better look behind else he's gonna need to drain that lizard.

Didn't even see the lizard at first.
