For whatever reason the Joes have the worst chest articulation ever resulting in "man-boobs" in many cases. What's sad is there have been plenty of examples of how to do it without that result. Microman did it for years with no problems to the overall look of the figure (That is if you don't count how all the extra joints made the fig look, but the torso was pretty good). The year before 25th saw Sith Legacy Darth Maul who had a great chest joint with nothing hurting how that figure looked (and he was shirtless which made this fact even more amazing). A few years later Marvel Universe hit and minus some notable exceptions have made the joint work well without hurting the looks of the figures. Shame Joe has been unable to do that. .

I would prefer waist articulation as well. Its just too big of a seam and it breaks up the torsop in a weird way on most figures, especially on Bazooka, and creating Gung-Ho's moobs.

Even though others have claimed the mid-torso joint provides more true motion, from an asthetic standpoint, it doesn't look that great. Hasbro has gotten better over the years at it, but if it were left up to me, the waist joint still wins out. On some figures, especially those with a logo, it's distracting when the torso is broken up like that. The best modern-era figures are the ones that have gear covering the joint, so it makes me wonder why Hasbro even bothers with it, to begin with. If Hasbro had used DTC Major Barrage as the template for them to improve upon, I'd be stoked beyond all belief. I'd kill for a Punisher figure in that format :-|

I prefer the mid torso joint, over the waist joint. Te best ones are the ones that are low on the abdomen, instead of directly under the pecs. They look the most natural.

I like the mid torso joint, when handled well. The majority of the 25th line did not handle it well...

but a joint between waist and lower abdomen is needed in modern figures, especially when hasbro claims these are great for customizers... the crotch should go with the legs. I mean that seems like common sense to me. not just for customs, but hasbro re using parts it just makes sense.

I've gotten use to the Mid torso joint, and they've come a long way since the initial 10 25th anniversary offerings.

I like them both really. Each has their merits depending on what I am doing. Some MU sculpts had both, like the early Thor and Black Panther. On Panther it worked, but on Thor is was very odd.

My most major issue with the current trend in figures are:

Some universal ball peg in the neck would be nice. One size fits all would be perfect.

I will never understand giving a figure great articulation but restricting it totally by the addition of the hard clothing accessory. Bridge Direct's Legolas, Daultay Dofine, and others had mad artic under their rather rigid clothing.
