I hit the store today with the hopes of finding some of the new Retaliation figures. I ended up in TRU and didn't find those, but I did find the Dragonfly XH-1 Kre-O set. It was the only GIJoe Kre-O item they had on the shelf. It looked as if they were redoing that sections so I would think there will be more later in the week and weeks to come.

The only real reason I wanted this set was the Kreon Wild Bill and the Cobra Trooper with the CLAW. For $19.99 I almost passed, but since it was the only set on the shelf I decided what the heck.

Wild Bill is sort of neat. I can think of a few redesigns I'd do if I were to make this, but over all he's ok. I'm not crazy about the arms for one thing. It works ok on the Transformer Kreons, but it can end up looking odd on these guys. It's passable though on figures such as this one.

He comes with his pistols and hat as you would expect. There's a "handle" of sorts on the hat so you can pose Wild Bill holding his hat in his hand.

Image

He doesn't fit so well in the helicopter with the Calvary hat on. I tried a few different ways and I just couldn't close him up in there. It may be a way to do it, but I gave up.

Image

He comes with a helmet that you can put on him and that allows him to fit into the helicopter. It has a fold down night vision scope/tracker sort of thing. He looks fine wearing it.

Image

Speaking of the helicopter, it's roughly like a re-offering of the Battleship version. There are several differences such as the skid lander versus wheels, the guns on the side, the tail section, and a few other ideas. It's close enough that originally I had thought there were no differences but you can see in the following images what's changed.

There are various stickers also to apply as you build. It's sort of fun if you get into it. I wasn't too thrilled at first since I wasn't so much into the helicopter, but as I was building, it did become fun. It took me about an hour building it all.

Image

Once it's built, it is a pretty neat design for a building toy. I admit I prefer what Lego usually offers better as the designs are more refined. Kre-O is like the earlier days of Lego where there are just so many pieces and Lego didn't want to go too far out there making specific pieces per sets. Now days they will to some extent. Hasbro is just now really getting off the ground with this stuff so I'm sure they are not willing to invest in too many item specific parts yet. So they work with what they have. Over all I think it's not a bad design. I haven't yet decided if I will get the full line, but this one makes it tempting.

Although the CLAW is part of the set, I wanted to do the review as it's own part. It's really the main thing that pushed me over the edge to get this set.

Image

While it's a VERY simple design, it's pretty effective. It accomplishes what it's suppose to be and it's just a stupid looking addition to the set. There's only a total of 7 parts for the CLAW and a sticker. I'm ok with that. It attaches to the figure with a part that has pegs attached by the neck socket of the figure. The pegs then rest on the figures back and the flight pack connects.

Image

He has a rather huge gun. For this I really don't mind it. The idea is fun and not trying to be so strict to "real world". It works for this figure.

Image

He has a computer thing with handles. It looks like an iPad resting in some sort of holder. It's neat for a little computer thing so the figure can hold in flight. An extra accessory.

Image

This CLAW would be neat to see sold in one of those 3.99 baggie sets were you might get 2 figures, 2 CLAWs, and some other GIJoe guy if they were to figure out a JUMP pack. I'd buy a couple of those!

Image

Over all, if you are sort of into these Kre-Os, I'd recommend this set. It's fun and a neat display. For kids, it has a fair amount of play features. The missile pods on each side is on a ball joint and positionable. Both fire with a tension peg. The front gun also is on a ball joint. There's a mechanism to push and it spins the helicopter blades. Sort of like the original Dragonfly! There's also 2 missiles at the landing skids that can come off for pretend rocket firing.

Good review. That is really cool that they put a handle in the back of Wild Bill's hat. I hope they release the Battle Corps version down the road.

I've never bought a Kre-o set, but this looks fun. My son has a bunch of legos though - are these anywhere close to being compatible? Even if the pieces don't connect together, how do the figures look next to each other?

The figures are the same height as a Lego figure. They look fine next to each other. I'm pretty sure a kid wouldn't pay much attention to the difference. The connectors are the same as Lego too, just like Mega Bloks. They would connect fine.

The GIJoe line is a Toys R Us exclusive. That will be the hardest part getting these.

I'm deeply considering whether KRE-O has a place in my collection, so I really appreciate a thread like this.

I have the Checkpoint Alpha set and Ninja Temple Battle set on pre-order. I'll post shots of those too. When I can find them I'll have the blind bag set.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll sneak a set or two in with the next gift-giving event to my son.
