Really I want to talk about the gotta have it mentality in collecting. Who has it? How bad? Why?
Hmm...
Who has it? I guess I do, to a degree.
How bad? Depends on the character.
Why? A lot of it has to do with characters that I have wanted, in a particular scale, for a very long time.
I mostly only have the "gotta have it" mentality with MU anymore. I will pay twice retail price to get the ones I want and sometimes more depending on the character. I do have limits though. When MU Professor X was going for $100 I never even considered it. When he dropped to $50 I thought about it, for about 2 minutes, before I decided that it was more than I wanted to pay for the figure. When I saw one for $36 and free shipping, I jumped on it. I most certainly would not do this for very many figures at all, but the X-Men were always my favorite comic book team, and I really wanted to have him as part of my collection.
Another example would be the Hot Toys Aliens vs. Marines snap-kits.
I spent a great deal of money getting those when they came out. But then again, Aliens has been my favorite movie since I saw it in the theater back in '86. I waited about 20 years for those figures to come out, so I wasn't going to miss my chance to get my fill of them. Not once have I regretted it either.
Of course at no time would I ever spend more than I have available in disposable income. Bills and such come first, period.
