Ok, so I got my Amazon discount Mars Troopers. Instant squad. (I squad build, can't army build).
I'm planning on using them as Iron Grenadiers, with the Iron Grenadiers I have being either the dress uniform version or an elite unit.
Anyway, I hate the fantasy weapons they come with. I prefer more "realistic" weapons in my Joeverse. As they are supposed to be Scottish mercenaries, I gravitated towards MJ's L85A1 (SA-80) but they can't hold it properly (the original IGs couldn't either). They could sorta hold it at the waist, but forget bringing it to the shoulder. Ditto MJ's Steyr AUG-1 (although they can hold it a little better at the hip). They could hold the Famas and P-90 but 1. They look small, 2. They're French and Belgian respectively. I could use the G36s but that almost seems generic (I know they're German but HK is making the SA-80 anyway) (especially as so many ROC Joes come with them). And the AKs are too primitive for such a high tech force.
Sooo, any suggestions?

I like the fantasy weapons myself, but everyone is different.

I would not worry about using weapons from other countries of origin since armies across the globe use all manner of arms, some produced domestically and others abroad.

I would suggest the SCAR-H as it is an impressive looking European rifle or the NVR to tie them into Cobra as M.A.R.S. supplies Cobra with most (if not all) of their gear.

Or, what about the XM-8? It is a futuristic, yet real-life weapon that would suit a high tech unit like the IGs quite well.

What about the "modified" British Sterling? An actual real world weapon from the right region that has been upgraded with next generation tech.

Another good suggestion would be the NCM Rifle. Futruristic yet very real world at the same time. I really think these would go very well with the IGs.

The SIG-550 might be another option to consider.

Hmm, the NVR and Sig 550 are good suggestions. If MJ made anAG36/ XM320 GL I'd be in total business.
Weapons like the XM8 and SCAR-H while made by Europeans are heavily associated with the US and my joes use 'em.
I'm trying to go for a "signature weapon" for all the factions in my Joeverse so I'm trying to avoid "overlap", at least between opposing forces. Plus there's specialist weapons: because the squad might need a sniper or machinegunner or grenadier. You'd think it'd be easier, but it is fun.

That's funny, I'm the same way. I don't give my Cobras American weapons, figuring we would not sell to an enemy force (at least not officially, anyway.)

I was going to say XM-8, but the SIG is a cool choice too. Another badass and modern looking weapon is the HK UMP:

There is also the original, non-modular NVR:

Let us know whatever you go with!

I'd say the SCARS or the XM-8, with the XM-8 having the lead...

You just need the G-36's from that the new sculpt figures had. I believe they had the XM320 on them. http://www.yojoe.com/access/d03/97.shtml The handles were always a little large for my liking but they do fit well in the Para Vipers hands. You might even find some people have for trade if you asked in the marketplace.
As far as the XM-8 ...... I thought it was a American rifle anyways so why would you give that but not other American rifles. http://world.guns.ru/assault/as61-e.htm Yep its a H & K rifle but made for the USA.

I have some of the bbI G36s. They're in much better scale than those G36s. I gave 'em to Firefly and his team (extra comic pack Fireflys). I'd love a modular G36 those (hint hint)

Well as of now it looks like the P-90 and Sig 550 win. They seem to hold short stocked weapons the best, MP5s, G36Ks, M4s & FaMas all can be held pretty well. They could hold the P-90 by pistol grip and front hand guard. The restricted arms and the grenades on their vests interfere with other weapons, like the Steyr, SA80, SCAR-H which have longer thicker stocks. Some weapons they can hold at the hip like the Steyr, and NVR (modular). They can also hold the rotary grenade launcher reasonable well.
I may try shaving the arms ala Duke, Rock N Roll, and Clutch, but that's for later.

I chose the P-90 out of the guns that fit because it looks like a weapon hi-tech mercs would use and wasn't generally associated with US forces. Ditto the Sig 550. The Sig I chose to give them a little heavier support and light sniping capability. I'd like to find them an LMG in the future. The M249 had the same problems the other big stocked weapons had.
