I was out yesterday and talking to one of the good folks at Toys R Us and happened to ask what they did with the huge ROC display that most of the stores in my area have taken down and replaced with the Clone Wars. He told me that it was given away. This of course got me wondering and I asked at the three other stores in the area. All told me the same thing. I don't have any room to display one of them but it is always nice to dream. I guess my question is, has anybody picked one of these displays up and if so what are your plans for it? Pictures would be cool.

Yeah sometimes the displays are actually used to raise money for charity, but often are suppose to go in the trash. If someone asks for it and the people at the store want to actually give it to them, that'll happen. In some cases too it's been known for people to sell the item to someone, and this is money usually going in that person's pocket. They could probably get in toruble for it.

But yeah a lot of times when a display comes in and you know someone at the store, you can usually secure it for yourself. Now if one of the employees wants it, you have no hope. Or if someone knows someone else a little better than you do and wants it, then you miss out again.

The stores around this area tend to have a raffle and give them away that way. However some of the displays have to be returned to the parent company. i won a Gi joe headquarters sign a few years ago. it was a WWII imaje with a jeep and soldiers walking behind. It is quite nice, full color and hard plastic.

We ALL light up when you walk by, Lance... ;)

I have gotten some interesting stuff over the years.

Before the local BJ Dalton (bookseller) closed years ago, I used to get hooked up with the Star War stand signs for the mass market paperbacks. These could hold about six copies each in each of the four sections. At the top was the cover art from the book. I clipped off the sides and had twelve inch by twelve inch posters...

The local EB Games hooked me up with a bunch of Episode 1 window clings, along with various gaming related signs (Tomb Raider, No One Liver Forever, Danger Girls, etc). On the back of my bedroom door is a Episode 1 Racer full length vinyl poster.

I managed to snag a bunch of Star Wars standees from work back in '99.

I also managed to snap a couple of the cardboard Star Wars standees that went on top of the floor display. I think I have an unopened Destroyer Droid in the back of a closet come to think of it. From the directions on the box it looked to be about the size of a standard garbage can when put together. I wonder how much that might be worth?

I'm sure I have other Star Wars related posters and such.

Oh yeah, from the FYI I managed to snag one of the James Bond TWINE promotional boards. This had the black silhouette of Bond (like the book covers from the 90s). I also got two full length closet door size TWINE posters. One of Bond and the other of Dr. Christmas Jones. :leer:
