I think another good point that has been raised was that these sets were in the Lego section, not with action figures. And even if the toys got some promotion through in-package catalogs or TV commercials, unless those specified that they were in the building toys section, who'd think to look?

I remember when the R/C vehicle, the Crossfire, came out in 1987. Lot of stores stocked it in the radio-controlled section, not with G.I.Joes. It was easily missed, as such.

You can DL the instructions from Hasbro.

Tried that. Couldn't find them. Found the instructions for all of the earlier waves, but I don't think they have any of the instructions from that semi-released BTR wave (unless they're listed under something weird).

When I get mine, I'll scan in the instructions and send them to you, if you want. Also, Redclaw, if you see this, you can have them for your archives if you need them.

Kids didn't seem to like these for some reason either. I've tried to figure out if it was the whole "no cartoon so no kid interest", but they had Transformer BTR too and they didn't sale. Granted the Transformer BTRs sucked, but still.

I liked them, but I felt they should have had flat pieces that would cover all the open pegs. The vehicles would have looked better if all of that was taken care of so it didn't look like a Lego vehicle with an action figure driving. I used to make Lego vehilces when I was younger for figures to ride in, but I would try and cover the pegs.

The main vehicle I wanted was the BTR HISS. It took me a while but I got it off Ebay. It's a pretty cool design. It's just the same thing, the pegs sticking up hurt the over all look.

It's simple as to why kids didn't like them: They aren't lego. And yes you covered that other problem, if they'd have made them joe figures driving megabloks style figures, that might have helped. But trying to compete with lego is uh, kind of foolish. And very hard to do when they've had a few generations worth of a head start...besides there's no GIJoeLand ;)
