Has anyone booked rooms yet? Which hotel are you staying in, and what did you pay?
I don't think I am going to spring for the $175 room at the convention site, so I'm curious as to where others might be.

I did, but I did the one at the convention site. Wife is going with me, so I figured I'd keep it easy for her to get back to the room if she gets bored.

Apply the convention code to the Group/corporate# area, should drop your price to 135 a night. Then get roommates.

QFT

There is a lot of standing around and waiting. Not just the long lines. While you will love meeting other fans and talking endlessly about all kinds of dorky stuff, your wife will be bored out of her mind. Girls don't like the little manhuddles you will end up in about a thousand times over the course of the weekend. Her only hope is going off to do other stuff or maybe meeting other wives/girlfriends and talking about how insane we all are.

My wife went with me to the 2005 convention. She was bored out of her mind. We did other things during that trip, but when it was geek time for me, it was bordem for her. She said she was never going again. That works out best because I don't have to worry about her not being bored nor do I have to spend the extra money. And she gets a break from me. :)

I highly recommend staying at the convention hotel. You might be able to get something cheaper but it might not be worth it. I had friends so that at one of them and it sucked. It was a pretty long walk back to their hotel, espessially with convention swag in hand. The hotel was bad with a lot of hot rooms because of bad A/C units. The convienence of having your room close is worth it. Cut down on costs by splitting the room with others instead if you can.

completely co-sign.

I have shared rooms since going to the 06 con, and with three friends the whole weekend usually works out to 175 for the hotel, rathar than 175 a night. Plus since everyone is there, you can split "hanging out" time with your joecustoms friends, or branch out an make new friends from other sites. (usually at the bar, EVERYONE is a friend!)

....just watch out for your defiant.....

...they do "things'

Horrible, evil, Godless, "things" :monocle:

The convention is in downtown Kansas City which doesn't have any "low cost" hotels near the con location. You're going to end up spending about the same at any of the higher end hotels that are close by or drive in from north of the river which would be the closest area for a cheaper hotel. You're better off staying at the con hotel and trying to find a roommate or two.
