Look at the insane ( :-x ) overreaction to Matt Trakker.

I forgot about this mess. Probably because I can't find one in stores, which should speak to his popularity.

Ha ha, Hasbr0wned. ;)

I agree with you on the lack of ideas overall. To play devil's advocate, there is a vocal portion of the fanbase who rejects new characters, saying they're simply replacing an earlier character with the same specialty. This was one of my gripes with this fandom during the new sculpt era, when several decent new figures were released and were immediately slammed for not being an update of [insert RAH favorite here]. That, and every update with new characters has failed (see Sgt Savage and Extreme). Hence we keep getting Duke, SE, CC, and SS.

I'd love to see more new blood, and see a new series led by new leaders with new troopers, but it won't happen.

You can actually trace this back to 1985. I don't know if it was said at the time but I have seen people on the internet complain that Bazooka was just a replacement for Zap and years later Downtown was just a bad replacement for Short Fuze. Me, I love new faces and characters, the more the merrier.

Ya know, I remember thinking that some of the guys back then were replacements for older figures, and I was glad, because I either never owned or had broken versions of the originals, so I liked being able to get a new guy to replace the old.

That's one of the things that always kind of bothered me about the GI Joe Canon. Nobody ever ages. I mean c'mon, a big whomping portion of the GI Joe team are Vietnam Veterans, and were senior NCO's while they were there. That'd put them in their 60's now.

However to go back the new characters of the new sculpt era were pretty cookie cutter. Dart came accross as a Airborne wanna be (same spooky eyes), I mean there are ten different ways the character could have been done and not gone back to that, with this in mind its no wonder people say "replacement"

Then you have Agent Faces and Hacker who came around right when Chuckles and Mainframe were killed in the comic, seems hightly conicedental.

The only new sculpt chracters that stuck out were the Stalls and that is only because they were something new (brother against brother) rather than the same old same old.

Savage and extreame failed cause they were such radical departures from ARAH, Same with Sigma Six that did have the same characters.

They suffer from the comic book curse of never aging. Which is fine I guess if you are Batman but poor Jimmy Olson is only going to have his first pube forever.

This actually would makes sense (if it were done right) as the team would likely need replacements for fallen Joes. Obviously though no one would want them constantly killing old favorites, just to bring in new characters.

I'd agree with you on the Faces and Hacker angle, but I don't personally see any correlation between the comics and the figures. Kids today don't read the Joe comics, the adult fans who were kids in the 80s do.

Agreed on the Stalls. But I personally liked a lot of the new guys from the NS era and accept them as new characters alongside old favorites.

Bottom line is the fandom is never happy. Too many rehashes and the line stagnates. More new characters and people say the line is getting away from its roots, where is _________, etc.
