Yep, there's a little meatl bracket that attaches the shuttle to the booster, near the nose, the Defiant has it, but the Crusader doesn't.

I think JR means sideways on top of the booster with the booster open, (bottom right corner of the pic he linked to)

Yep I have actually gotten mine to attach like that, but didnt keep it that way for long.

The shuttle clips on the booster tight. Mine stays on even when upside down.

Now when the booster is opened up like in the bottom right picture......it pretty much is just balanced up there. Nothing clips it on, so a decent "bump" and she crashes off. If it were just me I would not worry about it, but the kids are certain to knock it off. I make them leave it off when they open up the booster, which works out better as it spreads out the play are more so everybody has more room.

You would be better off finding a crawler locally as they are big and fragile. If you really want one PM me as I have shells and some parts left over from trying to complete mine. There are so many parts it is really hard to complete. Recently I discovered that my "complete" crawler was missing some pieces in trying to help someone complete theirs. So now I have to track down those previously unknown pieces down myself

Hmmm, i wonder if I'm missing a piece from the booster, there's no way mine would stay up like that.

I wish I could find a crawler base locally, i have every single part for the definant bu the main base, and lift mechanism... and a few wheels.

Yeah, all three I've had in my time(gone, gone to deathwing, parts to spectre) worked fine.

As a kid I really enjoyed that the hatch from the shuttle allowed access to the station.

Now the fact that the station was open to the vacuum. . it never came up.

I know this isn't really the thread for it, but I've always wondered, why is the booster manned? And for that matter, how does the thing have any room for the fuel it needs to achieve orbit if the rear is taken up by various compartments and a cargo bay?

I believe it is for extra play value. Not only a booster, but a space station, two toys in one. Plus what would you do with just a booster that did nothing else? It was an additional selling point.

if only they would have made a real space shuttle and not the bloated one.
I always wanted a Defiant sized actual Shuttle

I think the Defiant and the Crusader are based on actual concept air/space craft.

I meant realistically. I know logic ought to be thrown out, but what good would a manned booster actually be? I'd think it'd be pretty much a one way trip on that thing.

I'd heard of concepts where the empty booster sections of a rocket, instead of falling away, would be taken along, cleaned out, and assembled into an orbital base, so maybe something similar could be done with the Defiant. Though it hardly seems practical to leave one up there every time they launch. I just look at it as being able to function as an extra shuttle, though less maneuverable. Maybe it carries more fuel and oxygen, so the shuttle can operate for extended periods. It does require rather a lot of duspension of disbelief though.

I always assumed that the shuttle design for the Defiant was based off the Lifting-body designed body prototype they were testing in the 80's. After looking it up just now it does seem plausible that Hasbro could have based it off some of the protoype drawing floating around at the time. Heres a site that shows a few vehicles.

http://uk.geocities.com/osaka2015/US-LB.htm

I do remember seeing a picture at the Kennedy Space Center when I was younger that showed a Space Station being built and part of the Space Station was clearly made up of several extra Booster tanks which goes to show they did think about reusing the booster section at one time.
