I was going to ask, what non-removable knife? but then I looked at mine and realized what I thought was a flashlight was actually a broken knife. I don't even know how or when it broke off.

That's happened with two different Joes recently, but the heartbreaker for me was my Johann figure's leg snapping right off

That Tunnel Rat set seems to be flawed. My Storm Shadow from that set had his torso completely crumble to pieces while I was attempting to remove the fleshtone on the neck.

I had hands break off at the wrist joint on Shipwreck and zartan. Some joints are too tight. Maybe the sizes are wrong, too much paint or glue. Don't force it. Even a little pressure can result in a break. If you feel any resistance from a new figure just out of the package run the joint under hot water. It will soften the plasic just enough to move it. Afterwards the joint should work as normal.

In all the years I've been buying action figures at retail, I can't recall getting anything broken in the package.

Then in the past several weeks I've found three different figures broken in the package:

-single card Zartan (broken elbow joint-lower arm hanging by a 'tendon')
-two Indiana Jones German Soldiers (one with broken knee, other with broken elbow)

Not bad odds I guess...
