We all know "if at first you don't succeed" I want to know which five of Hasbro's try try agains were better.

The sequel sometimes surpasses the original.

I will post mine later

5. Flint from the Desert Vamp or whatever that thing was called, repaint of the Eco Warriors mold
4. Snowstorm v3. The black and grey version. As a kid, I had the orange version and thought it was a really silly but cool figure, most of the coolness coming from the fact that he had mittens and looked like Mr. Freeze. After searching for the black/grey one and finally getting it, it is easily one of my favorite arctic troops.
3. Sonic Fighters Dialtone. The original is great, but ever since I got this figure YEARS ago, it blew me away. At the time, I only had the Special Missions: Brazil version to compare to, so maybe that's why I like it so much more than the original. I've since gotten the original. This one is still better than it's 86 counterpart.
2. Crazylegs v2. I love the original, but that green and black make this figure a standout.
1. Shock Viper v1, repaint of Ice Cream Soldier. This may not even count since it's a different character and all, but it is perfect.

Many of the 88-89 Night Force figures were huge improvements over the originals; I consider NF Outback, Shockwave and Crazylegs to be my "standard" figures for those characters simply because their repaints make a whole lot more sense than the original colorations.

I agree with ajaman about Sonic Fighters Dial-Tone, he also has replaced his original colored figure.

Not many people agree with me, but I've always had a soft spot for the 89 Python Viper.

Can't hardly keep up with all the repaints these days.

'97 Stalker. Most of the Stars and Strips figures were less-than-inspired, the Stalker figure was leaps and bounds better than the other figures. Its complex camo pattern made it even better than the original '82 version.

Night Force Crazylegs. Already covered by Pentastar.

'00 Dialtone. The original Dialtone is a good figure, but the character's look was streamlined by switching everything over to green. The black wash doesn't really highlight the figure's details, it doesn't really hurt them, either.

'97 Battle Armor Cobra Commander. Start throwing rocks at me now. This all blue version of the character just makes more sense than the silver/blue version of '87. If CC is going to don an all-armored, strength enhancing battle suit, it's going to be for practical use. A darker color scheme that matches normal Cobra Soldiers is a great idea.

'08 Target Cobra Soldier/Vehicle Gunner. After seeing this figure painted blue with slightly different details about 10 or so times, the use of the grey/red color scheme really makes it easy to appreciate the design of the figure again.

Honorable mention to '06 Master Collector Flak Viper. The most detailed and realistic version of the mold yet. The TRU version, stupidly released as "Nullifier" was also nice.

In no particular order of preference:

MEGA-VIPER to SWAMP-VIPER (G.I.Joe Convention Set 2003). I always liked the Mega-Viper mold, but also always figured it would look better with a saner color scheme. The Club proved that one right.

'94 VIPER to IRON ANVIL (G.I.Joe Convention Set 2005). I really hated the '94 Viper. It didn't look anything like a Cobra Viper, and the color scheme was pretty awful. I don't even think purple and orange would work well on a standard Viper. Once again, the Club took a loser of a figure, reassigned it where it didn't have a previous legend to live up to, and gave it a much better color scheme.

ICE CREAM SOLDIER to SHOCK-VIPER. While I don't dislike Ice Cream Soldier, I always did sort of figure that the molds would work well as a Cobra trooper of some sort. I'll gripe about the fact that they paint-smeared the Shock-Vipers, but otherwise, the figure is a winner.

RANGE-VIPER to SKULLBUSTER and OPERATION FLAMING M.O.T.H. RANGE-VIPER. That skull-like helmet is always a little tough to work around, but the initial appearance of the Range Viper, in a fairly intense blue with bright yellow-orange trim and expecting us to accept this as a wilderness specialist was a bit much. At least Skullbuster was an individual character who, arguably, could dress as he pleased, and the Club version of the Range-Viper proved that the design could just about work in a more appropriate color scheme.

1989 ALLEY-VIPER to 1993 ALLEY-VIPER. Okay, maybe a stretch since there were some differences in the molds, but as far as I'm concerned, the black and yellow Alley-Viper is the best color scheme ever, and certainly more workable than the orange and blue.

Snake Eyes V4 repaint (VvV)

I never liked the blue on black/grey color scheme, but the ALL BLACK/grey repaint from the 2003-2005 era worked for me. (and that hook backpack had to go!)

International mail away set Spirit V2

I loved the Spirit 2 repaint, I always thought it looked more "ethnic" than the original Glider version with the earth tone colors.

VvV Night Force Gung Ho

is it just me, or does Gung ho look more like an actual Marine with this repaint?

Spytroops Night Force Croshairs

This became my default Crosshairs, perfect for a night sniper!!!

Desert Patrol Scarlett

I always though scarlett was cursed with odd looking non military uniforms, at least the desert patrol repaint made her match with modern military colors.

1) Convention Gung Ho using the Mega Marines mold. Up there with the best factory paint we've ever had.

2) Iron ANVIL (Battle Corp Viper), I liked this figure before but the repaint made me love it.

3) Shock-Viper, probably the most improved. It went from a joke of a figure to a desirable army builder.

4) Sonic Fighter Dial Tone, good figure before but even better in this uniform.

5) UK Tiger Force Outback and Brazillian Marujo (Tiger Force Shipwreck). Not as iconic as the Us versions but gosh darn it if they arne't nifty to look at.

1) Like others previously say, the Night force team was really great so:
a) NF Outback (v2)
b) NF Shockwave (v2)
c) NF Falcon (v2)
d) NF Crazy legs (v2)

2) I also prefer the newer Crimson guards with their removable helmets:
a) Black Crimson Shadow guards
b) Red OCS guards

3) 1998 ACE (v5)

4) 1998 Viper officer (grey)

5) 1998 Viper trooper (blue)

And a special honor :-D to convention figs like:
2002 Baroness, Tomax, Xamot
2003 Lady Jaye and Falcon
2007 Bats

Martin

Mine revolve around characters I like:

Mirage v1 to Mirage v4 (which I am still trying to find!) I though the green with silver and yellow fireing range goggles made him look like a weapons specialist.

Battle corps stalker to Sidetrack (the version which came with Shipwreck) - I didn't even realize at first!

Long arm to Convention Long arm - Loved the detail on that mold.

Battle Corps Viper to the Iron Anvil - the color made it!

Ice Cream Soldier to Shock Viper V1 - I was willing to make this Cobra's only trooper when I first got this. Looks awesome and shows that Red-black-blue are Cobra's colors!
