Thrasher's head sculpt ruled. And I liked the way the mold looked painted in the ugly comic panel colors.

Kind of a slow or poor year for cobra. I really liked the Angry Serpentor look though.

I went with Storm Shadow. I know it seems like an obvious character choice, but consider -- for those (including myself) whose original Storm Shadows had become discolored or faded over the years, this was the closest we would get to finding a replacement at a reasonable price. And they didn't give him a new headsculpt. Some of those characters just didn't need that.

A fairly close second for me would be Firefly. While I have had several debates with people as to whether Firefly NEEDED a new headsculpt, it nevertheless WAS a good headsculpt, wasn't too small like too many others during this time period, and the camouflage patters on his uniform was very well done.

-Cobra Commander (V23 clear blue): OK, but liked the original arms (hate those "watch" arms)
-Cobra Commander (V22 battle armor): It's Fred w/ removable helmet!
-Zartan: Very cool, but I still don't like the back of the torso having the other half of the vest molded on
-Zarana, Buzzer, Ripper, Thrasher: new heads make for good fodder
-Red Ninja Viper: great, but needed the Arashikage tattoo
-Storm Shadow: nice update with the sleeveless arms
-Destro: great new head, same awful body
-Firefly: nice new head and colors
-Scrap Iron: OK, but still has those short Thunder arms
-Serpentor: bought a bunch of them for a Serpy clone army. Love the removable helmet, but thas that constipated look on his face

I chose the Battle Armor CC Fred since I had wanted that character in figure form for years. The actual figure was very good, and I'm impressed that the helmet so closely matches the comic design.

Firefly.
Although he looks pretty much the same at first sight, the updates really make that small difference to make him look a bit more cooler!
