When we all could afford it, my network of toy and dio spies was huge:

The inlaws hunted for 1:18 dio supplies along the Eastern Seaboard at the hobby stores.

The Library held aside packing peanuts when they could in huge lawn bags.

The wee ones (nieces) double checked all thrown away styrofoam for hard cell foam perfect for carving.

Even an ex of mine scours Big Lots for Armies of Middle Earth 1:24 scale figures.

The Mrs. is never out of sight or hand, so I never have to worry about asking her to toy shop. Barring sickness (like now), we do all that together.

Even Martin overseas helped me out immensely with hard to find gifts. (don't worry, didn't forget you my friend, just had a set back on the ability to ship..)

Not to forget, the great lot of you guys that have come across the most interesting and unusal things both as trades, and some intense generosity.

In my case, there's no room for sexism or bravado when you can't get out and about to hunt down items that you need.

I stopped by Walmart this morning expecting to find empty pegs where the Joes used to be (as usual). I walk by the Star Wars and TFs figs and spot the Joes. Two pegs full! (Excuse my excitement, I live in Canada. Two pegs of Joes is a big deal here :-) ) Unfortunately, there is a mom with a crying baby in a shopping cart in front of them.

So, I pretend to be interested in the TFs until she moves on. She pops out her cell phone and starts talking with, I assume, her husband/boyfriend. She starts describing the Joes on the pegs. She tells him there is a BAT, a Cobra Para-Vampire(!), Mercenary Wraith and before finishes her coversation, her cell phone battery dies. She leaves the Joes and moves on.

I waited until she left the aisle then picked up a Para-Viper, a BAT, a Bazooka Trooper and TF Duke. I left Croc Master and Wraith. Some poor guy lost a chance at some Joes because of a dead battery. His loss is my gain I suppose. Am I a bad person for not feeling guilty over this? :-D

What? You didn't pick up the Cobra Para-Vampire?

Don't you relize how hard it is to find those? I don't know of anyone that's managed to get that figure so far! What's wrong with you?
