Put me in the same boat as everyone else who hopes that they will have some decent articulation. Regardless of likenesses, it will still be cool to finally have some 3 3/4" Star Fleet representation.

As long as the articulation is at least as good as the Indiana Jones figures: ball jointed head/shoulders/elbows/knees, swivel wrists; I will be happy.

Besides that, the original Star Trek was campy, just like Bat Man was campy in the 70's. What's the biggest blockbuster summer hit from 2008? Bat Man, The Dark Night. Does anyone think that film would have been better with Cesar Romero as The Joker? I doubt it. Would you rather see Adam West (even in his prime) in that movie instead of Christian Bale? I know I'll pass on that. Heck, I put Adam West and William Shatnew is the same league of BAD ACTING.

I prefer the Adam West series to the newer movies. I think they sufer from the exact opposite of the show. While the show didn't take itself seriously at all, the movies felt like they were taking themselves far too seriously. Honestly, it felt more like a Die hard movie than a superhero flick. It's like they were almost ashamed to consider themselves a superhero movie and tried to cut out almost anything that would have gave it that larger than life tone. It made the whole thing feel off, when Joker is barley even cracking jokes, doesn't have the chemical bath origin, or any special weapons, and he's fighting some guy flying around in armor designed to look like a batsuit. It's a shame when the lead character of a movie feels completley out of place with everything else that's going on. Batman just stuck out like a soar thumb in his own movie.

Jesus, Trekkies are the worst.

Your franchise has been in the crapper for 10+ years now.

Somebody is coming along and wants to go back to the basics, and re-use the original characters that built the franchise in the first place.

And you guys still complain without even seeing the movie yet?

Yikes.

Give it a chance.

I have considered myself a Trekkie since the early 1970's. The reason we complain is because, as you say, the franchise started rotting over ten years ago. I can't even watch Next Gen any more because it looks so dated and twee, even more so than the Original Series.

We are so used to crap being churned out with teh Trek name attached to it that our expectations are incredibly low.

No.

/At least I'm honest.
//I don't feel I need to give it a chance since I don't think a reboot is needed. Reboots are the creative equivalent of giving up. Ain't nothing wrong with Trek that good writing wouldn't solve in a pinch. Erasing what's already happened isn't how one pays respect to it.

There are plenty of other things and people out there who far more deserve " a chance" then this piece of schlock. If Abrams had taken the casting of Kirk seriously instead of stooping like he did I would of considered it. I liked Quinto (although still too pretty) but whatever.

And your argument that Star Trek has been rotting for 10 years. That wasn't because of Star Trek but because of what Berman and Braga did with it. Paramount was also far too comfortable in staying with a formula that was overly repetitive every week. That didn't help either and they are to blame as well. Also way too much Trek, t.v. shows movies. How about focusing on one and stop milking this cow.

Upping the eye candy of Trek was not the answer it was adding the depth back into it. This "film" is going to be heavy on the candy and light on the depth. You have to cast actors WITH depth in order to pull an audience into a movie. Good actors have depth, and Abrams could of cast one of those for Kirk but he didn't. I don't know Pine he could be a nice guy but his type runs rampant throughout Hollywood. Sizzle No Steak and NO impact.

What are you basing Pine's inability to act on?

5 minutes of screen time in "Smoking Aces"?

He may very well be unable to carry a main role, but given he hasn't had much exposure before, how do you know?

Bale was pretty much a nobody until American Psycho, and his career turned out pretty well, no?

Shatner and Nimoy are involved. The characters that everybody loves are involved. A director and writers with "geek" cred are involved. How much can this suck?

Bale may well have been unknown to Joe Sixpack; but his acting cred goes all the way back to Empire of the Sun when he was like 12 for people who were paying attention to him. Not saying your overall argument is wrong on this point; but your selection of Bale isn't comparable to Chris Pine, imho.

Add me to the list of hoping for decent articulation and useful accessories. :-D

Ah lets see...Pine has showed his acting chops in the following epics The Princess Diaries II, Blind Dating, and those are the cream of the crop. In each of these he appeared more interested in his "look" than being involved in the story and going for the gut with his acting. Certain actors do movies to act (like Bale) or actors do movies to be superstars/hearthrobs (how Pine appears).

Also I agree with Adrien's point that although Bale wasn't a household name the guy had talent and gravitas at 12 when he was in Empire of the Sun.

Pine is from a Hollywood family, Bale made his own future. Night and Day.

Look man if you need this movie to be successful and that everyone has to like it than that's fine. There are quite a few fans out there who seem to be rabid that Star Trek must continue and you MUST like this movie. However there are A LOT of people who don't need this thing to be accepted and see it differently. If I can accept the fact that you need this movie to be liked then I think you should accept the fact that myself and many others ain't going to like it. Not right or wrong...just the way it is.
