I take out the rockets, the seat and the radar. Then take off the "box" and you have two nice things: a trailer and a box for dios or as a Ammo Dump Unit.

I liked the one I had. It had a "cop behind the billboard speed trap" quality to it; set it up to look like an innocuous abandoned crate-on-a-trailer, then pop it open just as Cobra forces came near or had gone past, and surprise, surprise! :-)

Granted the construction was cornball and assembling it tended to be a little frustrating, but always managed to find a way into play.

Okay, this is the first "Crap" item that you guy's have posted that isn't crap.

Yeah, it might just be a box, but at least it's a box that will hitch to a real vehicle and look cool while concealing Joes.

And I agree with Doc Rob, the undercover action always played well for me.

Yeah, I gotta agree with Rob and Stalker. Hitch it up to a vehicle and it looks like you're haulling cargo. Then, SURPRIZE!!!! You gots blowed up.

I'm waiting for the Fort America discussion, personally.

The Coastal Defender was an awesome toy...in Theory. 1st it's just a Lone cargo crate on the dock where Cobra is doing somthing they shouldn't be doing...Then Surprise Dickbag...It pops open to bast cobra and signal the rest of the Joes to come in as reinforcements.

Reality is that you have to open the box, pull out the seat, adjust the box flaps, snap the seat back into place, and then let the figure sit in the seat....The transformation just isn't as smoothe as it should or could be. It's the difference between a Dodge Caravan with the old Bench seats you have put pull out with 2 people and the newer Dodges with the "Stow and GO" seats

I know I've said this before, but the designer of the CD was given an in house design award at Hasbro for the interactive nature of the Coastal Defender. The awkward sounding transformation that some of you are making fun of = play value in the eyes of the notorious H, as opposed to its peers at the time...the Road Toad? Great in THEORY as a trailer, but a motorized trailer won't work too well at that size.

Check out Tattoo Shane's site, tattoosandtoys.com, and you'll see the original presentation art for the Coastal Defender...I know cause I helped him get it.

Well, I never gave it two thoughts, simply because I've seen a similar set-up in the movie Tora Tora Tora (which I've seen at least 25 times).

In my JOEverse it's a little bit bigger (think ROCC trailer in size) and more non-descript. I can see this thing sitting up on a mountain coast someplace, looking like a generic military railroad boxcar, doing it's thing, then fully prepared to fight off a threat if need be.

I love this thing. I've bought extras. When my Joes go on a convoy, supplies get loaded into stripped CDs. I think the name is mis-leading. It's not a Coastal Defender, it's a supply trailer that can second as a weapon platform in a pinch.

Although I love it for it's plausible look as a supply trailer, it kind of has an A-Team - we turned Uncle O's riding lawn mower into a tank - quality to it as well.

This one ain't the "Jewel of Crap" - it's a hidden gem.

Even as a kid, I never liked the CD. I could never imagine this thing defending a pier or alcove, much less the coast. Yay, it has 4 rockets and an exposed operator. Rampart can defend most coastline than this thing. It does have minimal use as a cargo trailer, but even then, there's no opening rear door to load cargo. Maybe if it were more heavily armed or a bunker, like the Outpost Defender, it'd be more playable. All things considered, not a fun toy for me, as a kid or as an adult :-|

liked it allot - has so many imaginative uses. I have used it for a weather station, radio transmitter.etc. The only problem is it requires imagination which some people don't like (and there is nothing wrong with that) I doesn't win any awards for me but calling it crap hurts its feelings

Hell yeah, the CD is sweet. I never cared about the rocket launching aspect of it, but like others, I did use it for cargo and concealment. I only wish the CD was bigger. I always thought it would be bad ass if you could hide a ready-to-launch flight pod inside it.

Probably wouldn't be too hard to build a larger crate out of some popsicle sticks or something, using the CD as a base...
