I'm going on a holiday for a week this afternoon, so next week's poll starts earlier.
It's the year 1983 and the former straight arms ('82-ers turned swivel) don't participate, except for Clutch and Grand Slam.

Let everyone know which figure you like best (and please explain why)!

This was a more difficult choice. I ended up with Ace because of his cool helmet, but it was really a tie between Snow Job, Doc, Duke, Ace, Torpedo and Trip Wire. All with cool sculpts or great accessories.

The figures from this year didn't appear in my collection until about eight years ago when I discovered the collecting community on internet and Ebay (woohoo!). In my childhood I started collecting the Joes by the end of '84 so I wasn't able to buy / get the stuff from the years before. I did know of the existance of these figures because of their appearances on some box arts, posters, in the comics and the cartoons. That made them a bit special and even more desireable.
Gung-Ho was my number one because of his tough look and the grenade launcher which I have this thing for.
Number two is Airborne. He's the one I knew least of. I even think I never saw him until internet came into my house. He doesn't really look that special compared to the others and their accesoires, but maybe that's why I like him: a silent inconspicuous guy who certainly does have an important role.

Gung-Ho has always been one of my favorite characters and he's always been a major character in my Joe-verse

Silver pads GS is a good one (my favorite color is silver) but that "mutant" head is too odd

Torpedo
He was among the first Joes I got and was always one of my favorite.

Way tough choice for me, because there were a lot of cool figures that year (you might have to make this multiple choice at some point), but I went with Snow Job, because he was one of the first 1983 Joes that I snagged, and he was certain evidence that G.I.Joe was expanding beyond its basic "olive drab" boundaries of 1982 and into specialists for different environments. Of course, Gung-Ho, Torpedo, Doc, Cover Girl, and Duke also rank very highly on my list.

From my standpoint, all of the 83 carded figures are pretty much equal. They all featured remarkable upgrades from the prior year's figures and the accessories were more than could be expected from any toy at the time.

I ended up picking Airborne since he was the first '83 figure I was exposed to and it was his sheer awesomeness that made me leave Star Wars behind and become a full time Joe collector.

As many I picked Airborne. He is favorite Joe character because of what he looks like and because of his special psychic power linking him to his brother in the Cartoon (like Tomax/Xamot for Cobra).

I compltely agree with this one.

I went with Cover Girl,.. only because i loved the Wolverine back then...

I recognize that and it will be more difficult to choose in the coming polls where the best years of G.I.Joe make their presence. I will stick to one choice though, because I want to know who collectors would pick if they really have only one option. Ofcourse you can explain your choice in a post or tell what figure should be next to your choice.

The first polls from 1982 had 47 and 50 voters so I might expect (a little) change in the results so far (30 and 32 voters for 1983)!

Oh dear, I'm not looking foreward to 1987, my favourite year. And I bet 1985 will cause some problems since it had nothing but great figures.

Guess we won't have as much voters as the first poll, so I think Gung-Ho is a narrow winner!

Snow Job for me. He was the first G. I. JOE I wanted and got from my mom as a X-mas present in 1983. Loved the look of the figure and accessories he had at that time and still do to this day.
