Couldn't say much for the action figure line but those Hot Wheels cars look fun.

I just checked these out at TRU today.

Meh.

As for the cars, here's another example, IMHO, of really unnecessary "ACTION FEATURES>"

They have ball/socket shoulders and hips, so they do pop out from time to time, kind of like Showdown figures.

Over all, after having them for several days now, they're ok figures. They're like a step up from what I'd have expected out of a figure in the 80s. Like a slightly more articulated MASK figure. I almost feel that I wish they were smaller so they could fit in with MASK since they don't fit in with G.I.Joe. But then certain henchmen has a comical idea when placed next to Cobra figures as if they are just very short.

The Snake Oiler guy that comes with Trixie is actually my favorite. He's pretty solid feeling and has a decent range of articulation. These figure are far from amazing, but I guess for Mattel they're decent figures. Giving a Mattel figure an A+ grade is about equal to giving a real world company a C-. I'd give the Speed Racer figures a A-.

So I picked up the Trixie/Snake Oiler pack last night. Trixie has the same leg articulation as the other figures, but she only has cut shoulders, not ball/socket and no elbow joints at all. The Snake Oiler has the same articulation as every other figure. I really like both figures though. They're cool in a goofy kind of way, especially the SO with his snake shoes and helmet :D

Something that I noticed last night in the Speed Racer section is that the trailer playset says "Compatible with most 3.5" action figures" or something like that. Hello, Mattel, no one else makes 3.5" action figures :-|

MUNDO- rockin' the pink choppa!

Resurrecting a dead thread here due to the DVD release last week, which I just got around to watching yesterday.

First off I have to say I enjoyed the movie. I can see where people may have had some problems, but overall it had a nice Speed Racer meets F-Zero feel to it. At first I kind of hated Spritle, but he grew on me and I thought his parts were pretty funny with and without Chim Chim. I think I'll be buying it some time in soon.

Now for the toys that have been popping up again lately. I spotted the Togokahn Motors car for the first time this week along with the dirty Mach 5. The Togokahn car is pretty sweet, with a nice deep red color and black tribal marks all over it. It's small like the other cars in this range, which we all knew, but I like them for what they are. I have seen these cars in Big Lots for $8, but I grabbed mine at Wal-Mart for just under $10.

Really wish Mattel had done this toy line better. Just bought the GTX (now I have all four) - didn't they realize Cannonball had gray hair in the movie? Would love to send a video to Mattel showing my son getting p*ssed he can't sit a stormtrooper in the Mach 5.

May or may not be related, and I'm no fan of Speed Racer so I don't care otherwise, but thought this might help someone who is:

I was in Dollar General this morning and spotted a HUGE Speed Racer car by Hot Wheels (all white, narrow black "cockpit", Speed Racer logo on the open-face box) that was easily 1:18 scale (bigger than the ones I saw in the pics here.) It was going for $20. Thought I'd mention it to anyone interested so they could be on the lookout; not sure if it's compatible with figures (I gave it a single look, was more interested in snagging that lone single-pack Baroness propped up behind it.)

Of course a few hours later I spotted the smaller (1:32 scale?) ones at Big Lots that are going for about $5-$10.
