There are over 100 alternate, unproduced Joes in the modern line. They are a mish-mash of great figures, good figures and really odd figures. This version of Daina falls into the good category. While not significantly different from the production version, it is more accurate to her original comic appearance and retains some relevance for that purpose alone.

Enjoy!

Wow. I vever knew this figure existed until now...

Outstanding! Stupid Hasbro, releasing the inferior design of this figure (as they did several times with other figures too)

Thanks for the profile Mike.

I was always under the impression that Daina was Czech and Horrorshow was Georgian.

This was the first of the 'forgotten' figures I've really checked out. Sounds like there is a lot of customs that can be made based on the unproduced stuff.

I think it should be time for some folks to get together and start pooling our knowledge on these asian varients. While they are not 'official' figures, they are a part of joe-toy history. The number of figures is significant enough to be an extensive sub-set of figures. I have a small handful of these figures and it would be nice to see what else is actually out there. On a personal note, it's funny how common and available these figures were back in 2003. I scan ebay every now-and-then when the urge hits me and I can't imagine how much that un-produced tiger-striped Steel Brigade figure would go for these days (still kicking myself for not shelling out the $30 it would've cost me when chinese mid-night madness was running around).

I knew the figure existed, but didn't know the color difference was that distinct. I never really looked closely at it and thought it was simply a different shade. Very cool

I too wish I jumped on the ones I've missed out on

I've got to be honest, I prefer the Daina we got. The light green camouflage shirt was more distinctive and more comic accurate to the initial appearance of Daina. Between Brekhov and Schrage, there was enough use of that pale tan in the Oktober Guard.

Now, if there was a light green Schrage out there, as his uniform was in almost all of his subsequent appearances...! 8-O

Yea me too. I think Mike got confused.
Besides which despite what some may suggest Russians and Georgians are generally on good terms. They were mostly part of the Russian empire and accepted their role as a smaller nation in it for the most part though they did fight. So i don't think Hama created the whole "suspicion" element between the two because of that.

Since she was from Czechoslovakia that might make sense a little as it was invaded by the USSR, but still i don't know if Hama used that element of real history in the story.

Yeah Daina was from the Czech Republic (http://www.yojoe.com/filecard/05/daina_fc.shtml) and Horrorshow was from Georgia (http://www.yojoe.com/filecard/05/horrorshow_fc.shtml)

Honestly, I never got that there was suspicion between the two. I got the impression way back in the day that Daina was an officer and Brekov treated her like one.

Given the era she was introduced in, I highly doubt the enlisted personnel would be given the opportunity to become a pilot. And be a sniper specialist.

Given our knowledge of history, one could see now how delicate the situation could be rif with distrust/mistrust from Brekov (towards Daina) and resentment (for invading) from Daina's perspective.
However, the filecards show that Brekov was an old warhorse. He's got the been there/done that. I think he was a professional doing the job he was supposed to do, and hoping/believing he was doing it for the right reasons.

The Oktober Guard is an elite unit. None of them would be part of the Guard unless they were the best available.

Sweet!

I've got plenty of spare Firefly torsos, an extra Steel Brigade head, and probably could find adequate legs...
