It occurs to me that if Cobra were to be rebooted for the movie continuity as a private military company, the ‘legitimate’ security and weapons development (M.A.R.S.) wing of Extensive Enterprises, that Hasbro and IDW can elude that terrorist label without venturing entirely into the realm of sci-fi.

The Tom Clancy video game franchise is set a couple years in the future and with the new flight action game H.A.W.X. next year provides an evironment perfect for a GIJoe universe. A place where company conglomerates can out bid an entire national superpower. No mention of ninjas, eugenics or Captain Planet either.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Clancy's_Air_Combat

H.A.W.X. is set in 2012 above the skies of a world increasingly dependent on private military companies (PMCs) and elite mercenaries who have lax view on the law. As these non-governmental organizations gain power, global conflict erupts with one powerful PMC attacking the United States.

The player begins the game as a former U.S. Air Force Pilot who provides fire-support missions for the Ghost Recon team as part of an elite unit called H.A.W.X. Some time after the events of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, the player joins a PMC, and flies missions for them until there is a crisis with the United States being attacked by the player's PMC. At this point, the player returns to the United States Air Force to defend the country from the PMC.

It's an air combat / flight sim

And how come no love for Rainbo Six ZG? It's also in the GRAW universe whitch is actually an off shoot of the "Ryan" universe.

Just havent gotten around to giving it a totally unbiased try out. How many players can play at once, and is it along the same idea IE team missions, freeplay, etc?

On missions it's either 2 or 4 players, for advasarial game types it's 16 players. Advasarial is whare it's at on Rainbow.

Moved to the Joes section since this is definitely on topic. Politely asking everyone to keep politics out of this thread.

Thank you.

That’s why I started the topic in Off Topic, we should be able to talk about geopolicy theory from the fictional Clancyverse without it taken out of context. I imagine this scene with the Jugglers in their war room where they grant support of secret international military operations within their area of responsibility but only to those organizations licensed by the inevitable western coalition accords. Cobra Commander could be redefined as a master of the fictional wrangling that comes with the territory, to bypass international and regional law and snake his way into espionage against major countries. In the comics since their inception Cobra’s grown too big with more tech to be an uppity ragtag group anyway.

But then contrast that GIJoe doesn’t need to be a private entity, they are a volunteer force dedicated to the preservation of honor and duty in a world where it’s gone out of style. From a character aspect though the Joes are not motivated by greed or power they are well compensated for their service. They don’t have to worry about the increasingly lazy soap opera life back home until Cobra strikes then they’re torn between loyalties. Then for character development Joes and Cobras alike could decide to go to work in the lucrative merc industry and whatever stories you can think of from that.
