Outback is a major characters who still needs a modern update. This original figure has some limitations, but didn't prevent me from enjoying it as a kid.

What a great character to choose. He's right up there with Stalker for me. I remember my best friend got him before me and I was so jealous. Then when I got mine I broke his gun and lost his flashlight the first time I took him out to play.

He is pretty wide open character wise. More of a loner but Hama only touched on that in the comics and didn't exactly focus on him too much. I think that is why I like so much.

The Battle Corp version really took the outdoorsmen thing too far. There is a big difference between I guy who can live off the land anywhere and a obstacle course outdoor ed instructor. The DTC version was interesting. Not perfect mind you but the Hasbro designers took what were some of the cooler aspects of the character and at least tried to update them a little.

As far as customs go Outback is pure gold. I've used his parts for so many things I cna't even begin to count.

I agree with you on the comic part. The Borvian arc was just awesome. I can read that story today with even more enthusiasm than when I was a kid, and Outback's monumental apperance equals that of the older, more established characters. And I desperately wanted a normal Outback figure back then, but all I got was the orange version. I still havent got one, it has gone too long, and now I'll settle for nothing less than a moc to open.

I'm interested in how you've got him wearing his web gear....did you do that just to limit the stress on the straps, or is that how you've always had him wear them.

I've always seen them worn like backpack straps...up and around neck as if they connected to the pack.

That's how I put it on the figure when I was a kid. And, it's stuck with me since then. I liked this way since it took away from the white shirt and made the figure a little more interesting. I've seen the over the neck method, but I've had issues getting the pack to stay on when I've tried it.

The Borovian storyline was my era of hard-core comic fandom. I love when Stalker redeems Outback in front of the Joes. One of the best moments of the comic.

He's my favorite Joe. And really underrated. He should have been used in the movie instead of Chuckles.
