Saw two of these over the weekend. In one pack the Destro had a gold head, in the other his was a shiny black finish. Is this a production error or a variant? If a variant, which one is more rare?

Black is the Variant and is supposed to be rare. But nobody is exactly sure of the ratio at this time. the big H is keeping quiet on ratio.

It looks like the next few comics with alternate heads, will have the alternate heads packed as accesory. I love that idea.

The case I saw opened at Target had one of each version. I suspect the black head is " rarer" cause its a different look for Destro and more collectors are scooping it up leaving the gold head behind.

I'm still trying to figure out what the black head is all about. They have his head black on the comic cover that's packed in, but it's gold in the comic. I figured they'd have explained it in the comic.

According to the prices on Evilbay, the black head is the variant and more expensive of the 2, but IMHO, you could just paint it black, but the Iron Grenadier is the better of the 3

At least the variant is packed with an army builder, so it isn't as big an issue, getting one of each.

I think the black head is shipping 1:1 with the gold head initially then going away like Dolphin tattoo Shipwreck. From what I heard at SDCC anyway. I could be mistaken.

i was thinking it was 1:1 so far, but some people have swore they've found cases put out that it was missing from and replaced with a regular destro 2pack.

for the record, i've only got 2 black destro's and from somewhere it seemed like someone mentioned that hasbro thought it looked cool and was why they decided to make the figure heh. which makes sense, somehow

Not every case has a Black Head Destro. When they hit my Target last month, I watched them stock the pegs and they got 2 cases in and each case had 1 Black Head Destro & 1 Gold Head. Yesterday, TRU finished the reset and put out 1 case of wave CP's and there was no Black Head Destro, just 2 Gold Head's.

Crappity. The one pack I haven't found, and now the variant is getting removed? Nertz.

It's annoying too, because that pack is the only thing keeping me from a toy hunt break. I'm completely caught up otherwise.

Its the first shipments of this assortment that have the 1:1 ratio. Its entirely possible that the stores that are getting them later than others are getting the second shipment. That would explain a few things.

Long story short, its gonna be as rare as Dolphin Shipwreck and the other official variants we've seen so far.

A friend of a friend's cousin's friend's next door's roomate's mail carrier knows a guy that knows a guy that owns a shop, and they got 15 cases in, only 3 of the cases were 1 black, 1 gold, all the other cases were 2 gold.

Of course, he tells me this, and then I walk into a walmart and I see 1 black and 1 gold, so no worries on my part. Today, I did see 4 Tripwire packs at a ToysRus though, so looks like that one might be the peg warmer of this wave.
