I remember there being some debate about whether Undertow was an individual or an army builder because of how the filecard was worded. What you said reminded me and I looked it up. The filecard calls Undertow Destro's Frogmen but then talks about his equipment and training...

I always the headsculpt of that figure was a little strange, one of those where you wonder how in the world a human head could fit in there -- sort of the like the Track-Viper/Nitro-Viper..

Totally agree. I did some digging and found a thread where we were discussing crazy helmets: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10205

I never really thought of Undertow as an individual. Like you pointed out, it does say on the filecard "frommen." Also it's says "but the UNDERTOW are" The are would mean that there are more than one of them.

Still, maybe this one will be an individual, although he looks cool enough to be a neat armybuilder.

didn't they utilize him as One person constantly teaming up with Metalhead in the DIC cartoons?

I think you're thinking of Overkill, the B.A.T. Commander (produced as a figure in the Talking Battle Commanders series). Overkill, as presented in the show, was proof that artificial stupidity was just as technologically possible as artificial intelligence, and teaming him up with Metal-Head's natural stupidity was proof that two wrongs do not make a right -- or that two idiots can still manage to not have half a brain between them, anyway...

I recall a scene that I think was used in the opening credits of at least one season of the DIC series that showed SEVERAL Undertows swimming to attack.

Several Undertows also appeared in that awful Night Creeper Leader thinks he's the pharaoh episode. Probably others, but that's the one I remember the most clearly.

No doubt in my mind that the Undertows were a trooper, not an individual. Unlike some of the other '90 characters like Decimator and Vapor.

To me this figure is going to be a single: Underwater Destro, to dive with MASS Device Baroness. This I command!

You remember that episode? I've been trying to block it out of my head for years! 8-O

Part of the problem may be that it came with Rapid Fire.

Now if you really want Joe animation to make you wish you had that span of your life back, watch the tape that came with the Sgt Savage figure. :shudder:

Yeah, no argument -- blonde Lady Jaye for starters -- EEESH!

Still, there were some pretty horrible episodes during the DIC years. I'd take the Savage video over "Kindergarten Commandos", or the episode where General Hawk was replaced with a glitchy android that tried to do stand up comedy. AAAAGGGGHHHH..... :-/ :shifty:

Oh, now I remember where there were more 'toon Undertows. The episode where a gorilla wants to climb in Cobra Commander's pants.

I'd try and drink the memory of the DIC episodes out of my mind, but I'm worried it'd take too much else with it.

I like the MC Undertow btw. But I'm not going out of my way to get one. If I end up renewing (if I go to the '09 con basically) then I'll be glad to have it, if not, no great loss.
