Don't have much time these days so I'm cleaning out some older profiles that have been collecting dust for the better part of a year. This week's is the underappreciated Sub Viper. He's not my first pick when choosing my Cobra Navy, but is a solid figure who complements the other, existing Naval figures quite nicely.

Enjoy!

I agree with your thoughts, this is one of my favorite figures. The colors are excellent (although I like the Sludge Viper for what it is). I too mourn the fact that there was no Cobra Navy TRU 6-pack. I wanted an ARAH Cobra Arctic set to match the lackluster Joe Arctic set.

But I have to disagree with your thoughts on the ARAHC. I thought these figures were excellent and have nearly a complete set. I realize I am in the minority in this opinion, but many of these are my favorite figures, since this was when I began collecting Joes, which led me to research (and appreciate) the original 80s run.

I love the Sub-Viper. A fantastic sculpt with fantastic paint apps. A classic example of how so many sculpts of the 90s were destroyed by that damn neon paint.

I picked up the Sub Viper along with the Wave Crusher when it was released. I was completely underwhelmed with both. I got rid of the Wave Crusher but liked the niche that the Sub Viper filled. After picking up a couple of Man o War subs with the 2000 Lamprey at a discount store and getting a couple of the new scuplt Sting Raider subs I realized I had the start of a pretty decent Cobra Navy. I ended up picking up a few more Sub Vipers when they were under $5. Like Mike T said the Sub Vipers and the Lampreys (original and 2000) really do look good together.

While the Moray Hydrofoil and the Lampreys are very cool, I picture an organization like Cobra being a lot more covert with their naval missions. There isn't anything more covert then a fleet of subs at Cobra's disposal. So now the Sub Vipers are further trained Lampreys who are over seen by the officer level Sea Slugs.

I really love this figure. The colors really save an awesome sculpt taht was hindered by its original release.

I enjoyed the review.

And I have to say that I didn't think *all* the filecards from the ARAH collection were that bad (although to be fair most probably were). WhiteOut seemed pretty cool. And besides, these were the years that first gave us the Brawling One.

I see the Wave Crusher as a Firebat for the underwater bases. I don't use the term Sub-Viper sounds like a washed out trooper or somthing. I call them S.A.V.A.C 's.

The Sub-Viper has always been a personal favorite of mine since I first got it. I don't dislike the Sludge-Viper, but the Sub-Viper is VERY cool and extremely impressive in my opinion.

I always forget about this figure - a good example of why it's part of the "Forgotten Reviews" I suppose. :-D

It really is a neat looking figure.

Great review as always.
