Is it just me, or are the paint applications on the new figures sloppier than they ever where 20 years ago?

I just opened a Spirit figure. Before I could even set it out to display it had to be visited by a paint brush. The hair along the scalp line was unpainted and big chunks of the ponytails were also flesh colored.

The Star Wars figures don't seem to have this problem when I glance at them in stores, but I don't buy them. I also picked up a Indiana Jones figure and a Marion figure. There was only one Indy figure in the store that didn't have googly eyes. The Marion figures were even worse. Except for the one I bought, the rest had thick eyebrows and looked like Cher action figures. Icky.

I dunno about the joes, but I read an article recently, where they addressed the issue with the Indy figures. The Indiana Jones figures are being made in a new factory, and they're still getting all the kinks worked out. This is stuff they got set up to be just right at the Star Wars factory a long time ago.

No idea why they're still having problems with the Joes, though.

Funny how a factory with 1980s technology could produce things according to Hasbro's guidelines, but now with today's 25 years advanced technology, they just can't, gosh-darnit!

But when you think about it the painting process now should be alot harder since these figures have alot more parts, that are many times smaller than there RAH counter parts.

Do you think Hasbro is randomly repainting them once they get stateside or what?

I'm pretty sure Hasbro isn't trying to put out figures with google eyes.

I think the alternate hypothesis would be that they've taken the "good enough" approach because they're either under a deadline to get the figures out before the release of the movie and they don't have the time to fix googly eyes, or else they know we'll buy the product regardless.

If there are some figures floating around out there with better eyes than the others, I'm guessing some of the figures were rushed while later paint aps were perfected. I'll admit that I don't give two hoots about Indy toys and haven't given them more than a once over, but the figures I have looked at, particulary the figures of Indy, have been pretty bug eyed.

Honestly, I'm less concerned about paint apps and more concerned about those T-crotches. Why are they still making T-crotches, dammit? That's been a deal breaker for me since Joe came to town in '82.

Took the words right out of my mouth. "it's just kids toys, so who gives a crap about quality control?" at least until the lead in the paint becomes too much. I just don't understand how we didn't have issues like this back in the day, but do now. With advancing technology, you'd think everything would be BETTER in quality and execution.

I swear, if Hasbro made cars, we'd all be driving Trabants!

its not just Joes , i think all "toys" are made like this now ,its just ok. my 82 figures look better than tyhe crap im buying to day .
