Lifeline's biggest frustration in treating evacuated wounded was the valuable time lost while the wounded soldier was transported to him. Preferring to be as mobile as possible and able to get to the wounded more quickly, Lifeline lobbied to take helicopter flight training. While not necessarily skilled enough to be a full combat pilot, he was soon able to fly well enough to enter hot zones. With a little help from the boys in the maintenance bay, he helped to outfit a small transport chopper with a winch and medical equipment and create a flying ER. Recruiting his old friend Hawkeye to fill out the crew, the pair can now fly near the battle area and treat the wounded during evacuation instead of after. While the brass is not overjoyed to have a valuable member of the medical staff repeatedly put themselves in harms way, they have been impressed by the quick life-saving action the plan has allowed.
