Digger is part of an exchange program with the British Army; on top of his engineering skills he's completed SAS training and is as deadly a soldier as he is a skilled engineer, the latter of which runs in his family. His father and grandfather were both combat engineers, and later went on to become engineers in civilian life (his grandfather structural, his father mechanical). If you need it constructed, and you need it fast, Digger is the man to do it. Constantly thinking "outside the box", he is capable of constructing anything with almost nothing, the downside of which is he tends to chafe at red tape and regulations regarding his creations. Fortunately with the Joes things get done with a minimum of fuss, so there aren't too many times his superiors have to try to justify his "borrowing"...
